They apparently rented a university campus to film the promotion video, and were selling the case at a LOSS! What a shitshow. This could've been so easily avoided, yet somehow it never crossed their minds.
Not the first time DBrand did something really stupid and got sued or C&Ded on it, probably not going to be the last either.

Didn't Valve release the specs of the case so you can make your own custom Steam Machine case? I swear I saw a company selling their own custom faceplates for it. That was always one of the big draw factors for me; I miss when home appliances had wood grain paneling to better match your furniture, or they were kept in massive cabinets with sliding doors to cover up the TV or radio when they weren't in use. Much better than nowadays where we have these ugly, featureless, black or white monoliths with a single LED on them that constantly make me feel like I'm being recorded.

I look foward to the clone SteamCubes from China that are either lies, dreams, or will catch on fire running longer then 10 mins. Or a combo of three!

That fact it a fake SteamCube with a fake Xbox controller worn by a off brand Mario shirt make it the perfect *chefs kiss* picture.

I really admire that trait of valve, they generally don't just throw shit in the trash, og steam controller is STILL supported even now, and even old steam link still works last I checked. I imagine a lesser company would of entirely cancelled it

Also apparently Apple is also raising prices. Fucking hilarious that people gave valve endless shit, but now everyone raising prices.
I don’t like it, but I understand it. At least Valve had the sense to hedge and try to delay instead of talking out of both sides of their mouth like Microsoft just did.

don’t use my desktop much anymore, but that’s due to severe pain when sitting for long, which sucks for me
This is why I find it crazy that people scream about how you BETTER sit at a desk or else you are gay, or whatever.

Why must discomfort be tied to gaming?? Especially with health issues.

I feel like ablism is an overused term, but this really feels like the dumbest version of it. "If you have chronic pain and can't sit at a desk for hours you aren't a REAL gamer".

Like c'mon desks and sitting at them were never cool or preferred, but for years we had no real alternatives. Now we do and people against it are basically the gamer equivalent of old men saying how rock and roll will DEFINITELY send you to hell.

Its more age showing, or more age of mentality than anything. Stuck in old ways, which you stick to because its what you always did

I don't even care if people still use keyboard, whatever, cool, but hating non keyboard setups is dumb.

I think some people just hate new shit, because they think all new shit, is infact, shit.

I don’t like it, but I understand it. At least Valve had the sense to hedge and try to delay instead of talking out if both sides of their mouth like Microsoft just did.
Or worse, Nintendo up charging customer's, then suing the United states of sanctions, but not refunding customers.

I think your average customer has no clue how many back room deals go on. They don't understand that consoles are cheaper due to walled garden to begin with, that they have manufacturing deals, ect, and so just see price and nothing else.

For those of you who did buy a Steam Deck before the great RAM crisis, was it pretty much as good as you had hoped for portability and screen size? Or did you end up finding some off-brand that suited your needs better?

If you often find yourself in situations where you could be playing steamdeck, it probably good for you.

I mainly use mine to play a bit if yakuza before sleeping. I thought it might be useful during traveling, but I've always been to busy doing other stuff and tired before sleeping got ever use it. I've yet to have taken it on a business trip though.

The hardware is old. I haven't run into any issues running any game, but I don't really play many new games and never wanted to run anything demanding on it. If there was something stronger for a comparable price, I probably would have gotten that over steam deck.

I don't think I've ever used the touchpads for anything. Buttons and triggers feel kinda cheap, but they work. The biggest issue is ergonomics. It's an issue with the whole format. You're holding everything, including the screen between your hands while gaming you also have to tilt it towards your head for the optimal experience. Do you're either holding it at an awkward angle in your hands, or looking at the screen in a weird way. I much prefer how the switch handles it. If I'm on a train or plane, I can put the screen somewhere and hold just the controller in my hands.

I love how their entire subreddit is calling them knuckle-dragging retard and that Valve has every right for not wanting to work with a company as short-sighted as them.

The problem with the price of the gabecube is really simple, it's not upgradeable. (AFAIK, at least.) And people can easily build computers that are as good or better for half the price.
Which is why a thousand dollar US price tag for the steam machine is such a bad idea. Valve really misstepped here, there's not that many morons and the ones that exist have likely already bought a shitbox or a gaystation.

Why would you presume this exactly??? People have upgraded the steam deck which is limited by a much more constraining form factor. Steam machine while compact is much more roomy.
Well, if this is to be believed, https://thegamehaus.com/gaming/will-the-steam-machine-be-upgradable/2025/11/21/ the steam machine can apparently be upgraded, but only partially. The CPU and the GPU can't be upgraded, for example and that's a bit of a problem. That's why I say it isn't worth one thousand US dollars. If it was 600$ or 700$, I'd have a different opinion.
