They were originally saying that was with FSR but I don't believe AMD got FSR4 (The only good one) ready in time for the steam deck.
Wow, AMD dropping the ball? Haven't heard that one before!
I don't have much hope for humanity, but I really hope these nigger parasites get stuck holding the bag.

Just a reminder that eBay requires that you be able to ship the item within 40 days and that your title include some mention that it's a pre-order, otherwise you can report them.

Whats up with fags trashing ddr4. That platform will be legit 10 years from now. Hell AMD brought back the 5800x3d. There is legit no reason for buying the latest components specislly at this point in time
DDR5 is 6 years old.

SteamOS will never be a thing fags. Stop trying to make it happen.
It already is and has been for a while. What even is this trying to say?? You are like 4 year's late, even more so that its open to install anywhere, and proton is so good, and steam os has been getting refined through the steam decks lifetime.

But really steamos is still less important than stuff like proton anyway, which made linux go from unusable for games to basically windows parody. And remember, Microsoft said they used steam os as a benchmark for efficiency.

My living room PC is rocking DDR3 👴

Linux and proton in some cases is better and more seamless than windows. For a lot of older games, more often than not it's literally plug and play on Linux whereas on windows you have to find some obscure fan patch, sacrifice a goat to satan and say Biggie Smalls three times while looking in the mirror at midnight just to get a PS3/360 era game to run. And if it does run it will probably crash every 10 minutes.

For those of you who did buy a Steam Deck before the great RAM crisis, was it pretty much as good as you had hoped for portability and screen size? Or did you end up finding some off-brand that suited your needs better?

It was perfect.... perfect, down to the last, detail.

Seriously though it was EXTREMELY good for the original price, pads were a huge selling point since nothing else had them, and it ran like 95% of my library fine. Its a little less portable than switch but thats just expected, and its still practically one of my primary pcs.

Nowadays, with steam controller out (if you can get it) and steam os open, I think an alternative paired with a steam controller and steam os might be a better deal, but at the time?!! Fucking screaming deal.

Plus reminder old based model was lcd 64gig, so they basically upgraded for free, for a while, as 256 gig oled has been standard for a while

I've certainly enjoyed mine in the... holy shit, it's been nearly a year. My time with it was great though. The portability is fine if you have a place to post up with a nearby outlet, otherwise lower intensity games can run 10 hours. The resolution for the screen size was fair as well. The touch pads and extra inputs on the back of the controller enabled me to play mouse and keyboard games that normal controllers just don't allow. It's some pretty sick tech. Steam OS taught me Linux isn't nearly as scary as the internet makes it out to be. Since October/November of last year, I haven’t touched a Windows device outside of work computers.

Or Bazzite. The Steam Controller is awesome and, on its own, enables some sick shit. People may feel burned on the price of the Steam Machine but the controller is an absolute must buy in my opinion.

It was great, I've gamed more on the deck since it came out than any other device (desktop PC included). If you can get it for cheap second hand and are happy with the performance level its worth a buy if you don't have a handheld. Though at this stage I'd look at the other options, especially since you can install SteamOS on them. Plenty of youtube videos out there doing in depth reviews and comparisons.

They gave a lot of flexibility and made a lot of games playable that otherwise wouldn't be. I played through Morrowing on the deck and the trackpads made navigating menus a breeze.

Some games have weird controller jank that is fixed by the pads. Oblivion never got proper controller support and the mod that is out there doesn't have proper hotkeys support with the d-pad like on console. On deck you can just set one of the pads to a radial wheel mode with num keys as the input and it works like a charm.

That said, I've tried using the pads as mouse input on some keyboards and mouse only games and the juice just isn't worth the squeeze. Its like using a laptop trackpad - you can but probably shouldn't.

Yes. It’s fantastic. I have an original LCD and it goes with me on trips, to the mechanic if I’m waiting there, to my BFFs house while we’re watching movies. I don’t use my desktop much anymore, but that’s due to severe pain when sitting for long, which sucks for me. :(

I believe that’s exactly why Valve has dumped so much money into Proton, and what has led to the hardware side. They don’t want to be forced into Microsoft’s control, and with the shitshow that is Windows 11 I can’t blame them. On my above mentioned desktop, in Windows 11 sound refuses to work. If I boot it to Linux, sound works perfectly. My friend says that sound on 11 gives his company a whole lot of trouble for IT, and he uses 10 LTS at home.

IDK what I hoped for but honestly I barely use mine. It's impressive for what it is, they did an amazing job "consolizing" PC gaming. I like that sleep mode is reliable unlike a normal PC, the perf is fine except for UE5 slop, I like the OLED screen, but I'd rather play my extensive Switch physical game library. Even post purchase I have picked up a ton of games on Switch that I could have bought on Steam / Deck.

Lately if I'm going to play something on Steam playing on my laptop with a larger screen has been more appealing. 🤷‍♂️

It was mostly the opposite for me and my switch was gathering dust when I got the deck.

The one exception is travel. The deck is very chunky, especially if you use the carry case. I prefer to travel light and its just too cumbersome for me so whenever I went anywhere I brought the switch. You can detach the joycons and slip it into your coat pocket or something. Good luck finding a pocket big enough for the steam deck.

Man some of ya’ll niggas need to realize that you’re not the target audience and go touch grass.
The problem is that audience that was the target is likely going to be turned off by the price point alone. There's a reason prices often end in .99 because the one cent difference between 1000 and 999.99 causes a massive amount of sticker shock.

I got a good deal on mine. When it arrived I thought "Do I need this thing? What the hell am I going to do with it?" I even thought about reselling because I could of made some cash back. But I decided to hang on to it and started playing a few games here and there and using it for emulation. Fast forward to today, I'm very happy with my purchase and I use it regularly.

The portability is pretty good. Not as coinvent as a 3DS but you can throw it in a bag and it's good for a commute. I'm quite happy with the screen size. I'm sort of avoiding playing anything button mashy on it as it's not the most comfortable for it and I don't want to wear out the buttons and sticks.

There are a lot of little things that make the experience better on Switch. OLED's kickstand is great. Swapping to a TV works better. I really prefer the "confirm" button being on the right -- like I know you can remap but it's fiddly and never feels right for it to be B. Battery life is longer. And I like physical games.

I'll have a console that can emulate and sail the high seas for everything I want, from the comfort of my own bed.

That reminds me where are the best places for game roms?

Vimms

Now old PC games though are a pain in the ass. You have the Exo releases which at the very least are comprehensive, but anything from like 97 to like 2010 is a pain in the ass. Sometimes shit will just work while others, ehhhhhh
