It occurs to me how vastly stupid this whole endeavor is.
Why does Sony sell you a $1500 machine for $800 at a loss? A: to make money selling games for it. Particularly exclusives - Sony doesn’t profit if you buy a Rockstar game on PC or Xbox. But every copy of, say, Gran Turismo sold is a drop in their bucket.
Nigger? People already come to you to buy games. You didn’t need to develop an enticement to bait buyers into your ecosystem. You would literally have profited more by doing nothing differently from before you pulled the lever on the Gaycube. You even profit regardless of the platform! No console can claim that.
Vanity console. And that controller is an abominable heresy in light of the perfection that is the DualShock - like you shoved that and an Xbox failtroller into the same teleportation pad & set it for a pride parade. Just what everyone wanted - a high priced, low power PC gaming experience with a controller designed by Stevie Wonder. DS or Keyboard or Tits or GTFO.

I’m pretty sure it still happens and no one talks about it anymore because it’s just standard now - but, my source is imadeitthefuckup.com, so, yeah.
But iirc part of the lore of this thing is they are selling for four figures & not $800 because they think they don’t have to take the dive everyone else does. Even then, this is effectively the cost price until you start adding options, not like the 2TB or controller are at cost for those prices. Also, like a game or movie, it’s not just the cost per unit but the development that has to be considered, where the break even point is.
It’ll never happen, but it would be funny to see Apple push gaming on the Mac Mini and steal this faggot’s lunch. When Apple is a cheaper alternative, you done fucked up.

They clearly had some sort of plan, everything got shit and expensive after they revealed the plan, and now they're just shipping it out anyways because... idk? I guess cause the parts would start becoming significantly outdated if they delayed it further? Thing was already gonna be pretty niche aside from the random faggots that care about it being cube shaped for some reason because let's face it: a PC running fucking LINUX of all things will never be a console. You will hop on protondb, see some shit compatibility rating, say "well idc I want to play that game anyways" and end up tinkering regardless. Valve has to have some curse on them with the fucking steam machine lmao they spent years getting games working on linux just for another shitty launch when they tried it again. GG

They already are. Almost everything has had an increase over the last two days. I suspect the next iPhones to have one at launch.
Although, I would also like to see more support for games on macOS. Competition is good for everyone, plus as I previously said, I hate M$ and would love to see them lose their majority status.

You act like gabe did this for profit of sales. They are a private company. They always knew people could even use steam deck / controller for anything else. They marketed it that way, but nobody was calling him stupid when he called the og steam deck price "painful"

Nah, steam deck , and controller scheme are absolutely onto something, and if you hate pads it's still basically ignorable. So I'm guessing you just irrationally hate the pads or just think "steam bad", because the steam controller is functionally BASICALLY identical to dual shock but with more stuff, so.... literally why complain? Certainly has a longer battery life than ps5...
Like I completely understand people being skeptical af over steam machine, but steam controller is just great. And people were begging for "deck but no screen" for years. So it was highly requested anyway.

Gabe Newell owns seven yachts. Private companies have shareholders. Valve employees have stock in the company. So there are shareholders in Valve that have a say in the direction of the company. The exact stock shares can basically be figured out by looking at Newell's divorce filings. Just because Valve is a private company doesn't mean its entire business model isn't centered around profit.

Uh, yeah? Pretty much every company exists to provide goods and/or services to make a profit. That said, it's clear that Valve has a vested interested in expanding the Linux user share and the Steam Machine was supposed to be a way to achieve that.

One, steam already makes RETARDED levels of profit.

Of course successful companies, even public ones do that, and that's what I think steam deck to an extent, and machine were. And I bet if they were public, shareholders would of death gripped gabe by the balls and DEMAND he not waste resources on a steam machine, especially with the previous steam machine failure.
Kinda nutty to me people are screaming about how steam machine is unprofitable, but when I suggest steam knows, they insist steam is just retarded and can't do math or something. Like I don't understand how you guys are attempting to square that circle.

A 5 year old CPU outperforms the steam machine's and you think this is the fault of the guy pulling it together out of a junk-drawer?
I am fine with trading off for lower end performance if I get something out of it. The laptop I bought last year has the lowest end SKU lunar lake chip. In exchange I got a really nice OLED screen and incredible battery life, oh and I got a good sale and got it for a really good price. Bad timing I guess but the Steam Machine's trade off was supposed to be price and it's in a really awkward spot now where yeah you might actually want to consider pulling together DDR4-era parts instead.

The appeal is a more precise and varied input you can actually move around with. Good luck using keyboard and mouse while on your feet for anything, or in odd positions, or anything similar. You also kinda contradict yourself, yes, its JUST like the steam deck, which is what people wanted. They were literally asking for exactly that. And so I kinda HAVE had it in my hands, like 85% because its basically JUST a hacked down steam deck
Are you suggesting a steam control is as comfortable as holding a laptop mid air??? Are you the troglodyte who ripped out the back buttons?? No, controller is light, comfortable, and far, far, far easier to use, which is the entire point.
I mean maybe some are just retarded, too, but that's not much better. Still reeling I've seen retards who literally only play controller based fighting games , buy and review it, and act surprised when they don't think its worth it... yeah no shit, its like if you ONLY want a knife for camping, get a leatherman multi tool, and complain the knife is small and unwieldy while you don't need any other features. If that's the case, just buy a 30$ combat knife. Cheaper, better for that purpose, and no unnecessary shit. But that's also a bad reason to call Leatherman tools bad, if you didn't even want the whole appeal of it in the first place. Like if we're that kinda customer, it obviously wasn't made for you, duh.
