Haha I remember thinking I'd maybe get this if it was around $700 or so, $1050 for the base version is insane

The ps5 pro is a better deal on virtue that every modern game for the never 3-4 years will be optimised to run on it. The Steam machine does not have that privilege. The price to power ratio puts it in such a awkward zone, that makes it hard to understand who this appeal to. It's too weak for Triple-A games, and it's too expensive to be a cheap Console like PC for Indie's and emulation.Haha I remember thinking I'd maybe get this if it was around $700 or so, $1050 for the base version is insane
I sent this to my irl friends thinking they would dunk on it. They all started making excuses for it.The Steam Machine costs $1049 / Steam's Blog post.

data centers definitely fucked this over. I'm working with sourcing for industrial computing parts and the prices are beyond sky-high at the moment. As much pulling power as Valve has, they have nowhere near that power that the big tech companies have. This could probably be salvaged if they just postponed it until the data center mania cools down. Releasing it at these specs and these prices now is beyond disastrous. The Steam Machine costs $1049 / Steam's Blog post.

I mean, the excuse that "all prices for SSD and RAM have skyrocketed" is valid.I sent this to my irl friends thinking they would dunk on it. They all started making excuses for it.
I fucking hate goyim.
In 2023 I bought an old workstation and threw a 3070 in it. Total cost was 500 dollars, completely rapes these specs jesus512 GB SSD, 16 GB RAM and 8GB VRAM
lol
Shitspec. Anyone who buys that is retarded beyond belief.
512 GB RAM, r-right?Over a grand without a controller and 512gb… insane shit.
I can't understand trying to excuse this thing. I have several hand-me-down/tossed out laptops that are nearly a decade old that aren't that much weaker than this thing. You'd need like 5 of them stacked together to even compete with the fuckin' pre-builts from a handful of years ago. Just save up a few hundred more and you can get something a universe of power ahead of this fuckin' cube.I sent this to my irl friends thinking they would dunk on it. They all started making excuses for it.
I fucking hate goyim.
You can throw together something way better than this for a thousand bucks, granted you'll have to go DDR4 not DDR5 but you'll have a proper CPU and at least 10gb of VRAM.Anyone complaining about this price has not tried to build a PC worth a shit in the last 3 years.
The sad/funny part about this is even at over a grand with that laughable amount of storage this is probably still a loss leader for Valve. The Steam Machine costs $1049 / Steam's Blog post.
