Rep. Abe Hamadeh (R-Ariz.) introduced the bipartisan "BRRRRT Act" (H.R. 9780) on Monday, requiring the Air Force to retain at least 126 A-10 Thunderbolt II "Warthog" jets through fiscal year 2033, halting their planned retirement.
The bill is co-led by Rep. Don Davis (D-N.C.), and if passed, it would also force the Air Force to restore shuttered maintenance depots and pilot training pipelines.

Can we make a thunderbolt III? I love the Warthog with a passion and I find it hilarious how we refuse to let it go. But at the same time it isn't going to survive in a conflict with a more modern military. Not really sure how it can be improved beyond giving it more countermeasures. Its purpose as a dedicated close air support platform basically mandates that the plane excels in places where your enemy has no real recourse against it and outside of that, in contested skies, it would struggle hard.
The old gun is fine, but the plane around the gun is in dire need for a redesign. We have like 60 years of aviation advancement it needs to catch up on.

A lot of stealth tech would be wasted on the concept, since one of its defining charterisisics is carrying a lot of ordnance. If it was me, I'd keep the basic design, install better engines, more fuel, and more countermeasures.
