There's a good argument to make that dedicated CAS aircraft are largely obsolete, stuff like the A-10 and SU-25, the later of which is the most shot down aircraft on both sides during the war. The advent of glide bombs, like the JDAM and RMBK, have made bomb capacity much more valuable than anything else on a strike aircraft. F-15Es and now F-15EXs and SU-34s can carry much more munitions than older CAS aircraft from ranges where air defense cannot touch them.
