Unpopular Opinions about Video Games

Hidetaka Miyazaki could break into your house, rape your wife, and murder your children and half the Souls community would say "lol skill issue" and the other half would write novel-length forum posts about how brilliant it was that From Soft's magnum opus masterfully teaches you that you're not safe even OUTSIDE of the game.

I really enjoy Souls games, but the insufferable fanbase's collective stance that everything is intentional and there's no such thing as bullshit or bad design in these games has rendered them invulnerable to even the most valid, common sense criticism. I'm looking forward to the day From seriously phones in a game in an obvious, undeniable way and all these spergs are too terrified of the h4rdc0r3 community they created to admit they don't like it.
I think a single mandatory difficulty and sparse save points are perfectly defensible design decisions. It also seems to be "common knowledge" that DS2-3 are a step down from the original, so evidently they are not regarded as beyond criticism, but I don't have an opinion about that.

The first game's DLC is wildly unbalanced. If you struggled with the main game then that'd make you rage.
The extra quests/sidestory involving Hammerhead and Silver Sable (mostly), right?

@Gondolindrim I gradually lost interest when it involved Nazi zombies, then aliens (or is that extraterrestrials? Was I being racist??? Ooh!), then Krakens. I will say I've always liked Tank Dempsey, however.

The swinging around is the best part of the PS4 game for me. The last Spidey game I played before that, not counting Marvel Ultimate Alliance, was the one that came out in 2000, when I was little. It was on PC, N64, and PS1 (I, of course, played it on the PS1, to add to my, I suppose, growing video game collection, that included Tekken 3, Spyro: Year of the Dragon etc. I also played a bit of Resident Evil: Director's Cut, and Max Payne, but, really, those were my dad's).

Actually, tell a lie, as I've just remembered: I played Shattered Dimensions on the PS3 before I picked up Spider-Man "1" PS4.
It really is worth trying out the old Spider-Man games even though they're a bit dated now. Black Cat was never hotter in a game than she was in Web of Shadows. And as for the original Spider-Man 2, nothing beats swinging around delivering pizzas.

Except no.

Sorry if repeating myself, but I had a weird experience with the games. I played DS1, didn't like it. Either you played it with notes on which case the game has it's own walk through, or without in which case the game is trial and error bullshit. After the usual accusations of "git gud", people begrudgingly admitted that DS1 is only good early on.

Was told that DS3 was way better. 1080p, 60fps, better balance, and quality throughout instead of being frontloaded. Played it to completion. Didn't care for it and the ending sucked. Multiplayer was jank and fiddly compared to Remnant's sublime simplicity. Was told that 3 was trash with Bloodbourne esc attack spam bosses, magic is useless, and there's no memorable locations.

Actually, turns out that DS2 was the true GOAT the whole time. A misunderstood masterpiece of the Souls games. The base game is hated, but spec into healing gems and focus on the DLC. By this point I quit. I'm not buying a third game on the off chance that maybe this time it'll be good.

There is clearly some kind of JRPG level sunk cost fallacy going on Dark Souls. In the same way "it gets good 15 hours in" doesn't persuade me to play JRPGs, needing to spend multiple games worth of playtime and YouTube videos to get the lore, right builds, adapt to the game's jank, all for what? A game with janky sub par combat and no story?

I really think this is the crux of your problem. Souls fans are the worst people in the entire world and they craft their personality around and derive their self-worth from being "gud" at these games.

I liked playing the games (others may not and that's okay!), but literally every single interaction with the community is miserable. It's one of the reasons I've been gunshy about playing Elden Ring - by all accounts, the game is design to be a challenge for the entire autistic masochist playerbase rather than the individual player and if you don't have a plan for a "build" and a wiki open while playing, you're going to get rolled.

That's so antithetical to the core of what I enjoyed about Dark Souls.

I heard the opposite. That Elden Ring is mostly reused content from the other souls games, and it's trivial to make yourself OP with ashes and spells with even the slightest bit of sidequesting. Having been burned before with all their other games, I've let Elden Ring sit on the back burner.

One thing I didn't mention in my post was my runs supposedly "didn't count" because I did or did not do specific things. The level of purity varies from simple "don't use a guide" to complete lists of forbidden items, classes, and even game mechanics. As if the only way to play the game is to play the knight, never use items, never use magic, and never use summons.

I say this because I've heard there's a boss fight in elden ring that is meant to be this epic fight with an army of npc summons storming a single huge boss, but people complained because using said summons were forbidden by purists and the boss was extremely difficult as a result.

Someone who's actually played Elden Ring can give a real opinion on it, but from where I sit the difficulty of Elden Ring mostly comes from people who focus the main quest, vs those who explore every cave and build up a massive stock of levels, items, and ashes?

thats not the original spiderman 2. The ps1 game was. Also the movie tie in for 3 sucks skip that one.

Yea its gimmick is that youre supposed to have a hoarde of helpers but as far as gimmicks go thats a pretty lame one. Its also a poorly designed boss, its one of those screen hogging monstrosities the camera cant deal with.

They over nerfed him to be solo'd realized they went too low then brought him back up to a healthy point where either way of fighting him is reasonable, still on the harder end but not ridiculous to solo.

Yeah, as I said, Dark Souls fans are the worst people in the entire world. It's a bunch of nerds with no actual achievements to their names jerking themselves off because they beat a game.

I would personally recommend not using a guide, not because it makes you a true hardcore gamerman, but because it's a personal adventure. When you get down to the very bottom of Blighttown, there's a sense of isolation and foreboding because you're deep into the unknown, disoriented, and you have no idea what to expect next. I legitimately felt dread in the pit of my stomach at that point and I think that's neat and a rare experience in a game.

But if you can't figure out where to go next or something, use a fucking guide. It's just a video game.

I don't think summons are "forbidden", but I do think mano a mano duels with bosses are the highlight of the entire series and would be very disappointed if the difficulty is so extreme that I'm effectively required to play it like an MMO. Unlike most Souls faggots, I blame From Soft for a whole lot of things, rather than considering them infallible and blaming players for "playing it wrong".

Not even a hard game. I like souls games theyre great, theyve lost a lot a bit of their original charm over time and fail to carry over basic improvements between games but theyve maintained a good level of quality. That being said theyre not hard games, they were refreshingly punishing in an era of dumbed down garbage where game over meant respawning 10 seconds back with no concequence.

But if you want a difficult game show me your bayonetta ranks, or your god hand combos or your ninja gaiden black runs. Souls games are not only way easier than any traditional action game theyre also way simpler, theres no variety to combat at all which is why the gimmicks of Dark Souls 1 and Demons Souls always served better. Even something as simple as moonlight butterfly changed if you were a tanky knight with a good shield or a ranged caster.

As a turbo soulsfag, I'll do my best.

ER isn't so much reused content as there's a wealth of assets from a decade and a half of other titles to pull from. So some animations and models or even partial models might show up again. A lot of people will point to unfinished or cut content in older titles that are given new life in subsequent games. For example, I believe the ulcerated tree spirit boss was something cut from DS3 but was a fully realized, if reused several times boss in ER. ER reuses its own content tons and I wish the game was a more concentrated experience but it's almost entirely found in side dungeons that the player can easily ignore.
It's trivial to make yourself OP if you know what you're doing.

It's a spectacle fight. All of the games have at least one and in this case, ER has two, Radahn and Rykard. Both are beatable without using their gimmicks. Anyone complaining about summons in the Radahn right and not complaining about the serpent hunter in the Rykard fight is a faggot and their opinions can be discarded. I think the fight is cool but it has its issues.

The game has way more latitude in terms of when you tackle objectives that it's safe to say the game is as easy or as hard as you'd like it to be. There are very few bottlenecks for progression. While there isn't a "correct" way to play the game, if someone is rushing the main quest and ignoring the open world while complaining about getting filtered, you'd think they might try and explore the big ass map. This isn't really the case for other From titles where the experience is largely linear. The "git gud" mantra applies much less to ER where you can much more easily brute force objectives via simply exploring.

It sounds like you're a soulsfag in denial.
You're just doing the same thing as the Souls faggots in reverse. DAS FUCKIN EASY NOOB YOU WANNA KNOW WHAT'S REALLY HARD?
Nevermind, you're just a sperg.

No I'm pointing out the fallacy of the statement. All the games I listed have easy modes and are still a far better combat experience. The point of souls is their variety and the journey they put the player through, its only natural there's less depth to the combat when you have 500 weapons and youre only expected to have 1 at a time. But that journey has become weaker as the games focus more on combat.

Well I can explain my feelings on this one the summon mechanic is well known to be a handicap. As for the rykard/yorhm fights they're botched recreations of a gimmick from DeS, the storm king was out of range of most builds so paying attention to your enviornment (half the reason immersion is so important for putting you in the shoes of your adventurer) allowed you to find an alternate way to take on the boss.

I forgot all about Web of Shadows. Wolverine's in it, too. I'll look for it sometime, I think.
