It depends what sequels you're talking about.Yet in the same breath these retards will also wonder why many sequels were never made.
Publishers get strange ideas. Look at how often "single player games don't sell. We're only going to make multiplayer games." comes around, until something like Skyrim or Uncharted makes all the money and then suddenly single player games are back as if they never left.
There's also publishers sitting on IPs people like, but are afraid of making money. Goldeneye was stuck in copyright limbo for decades, there has never been a sequel (spiritual or actual) despite that game having a big following. I still don't know what happened to all those Boomer Shooters Romero crowdfunded.
