Kris and Susie's relationship is, quite literally, the heart of this game's story. The actual main plot is kinda shallow but the character work between the protagonist and deuteragonist is very well crafted and genuine feeling, and the romantic aspect only added to it. It makes you want to root for the two of them to get together because they're already soulmates.

Like you said before, if it turned out (let's say for the sake of the argument) that Kris is actually female, Krusie would still be better written and more organic than Suselle. They have such a sincere relationship that the chemistry works out pretty great.

Shockingly Suselle simply being gay isn't my actual issue with it. I just like well written relationships that don't feel like they were cranked out on AO3, and Krusie is the single most well developed relationship in the game.

Susie and Noelle have almost nothing in common and haven't said more than 2 words to each other up until the events of the game, which I would remind people is only 4 out of the last 5 in-universe days, and one of those days was entirely in the dark world so Noelle thinks it was a dream.

Susie and Noelle have hung out for at most a few hours over the course of 3 days and are now basically dating. Anyone without a yuri fetish can see how fucking shoehorned it is.

I still 100% believe it's on purpose. The game ends with the audience watching a surprise party being set, which is almost always the biggest giveaway that it is going to go to shit.

The game has multiple ways to point to you "this isn't a natural thing" or "this doesn't feel right". Noelle doesn't even acknowledge that Susie exists in the WR and even goes as far as to criticize and make fun of the normal route Noelle doing Noelle things.

I found the direct jabs at the audience very strange too. Doesn't even feel clever, it just feels extremely bitter and out of place. We already saw a bit of this with the Mike thing, Like Toby, I'm sorry, but your new Ralsei sprites look like ass.

I actually hated Undertale for the longest time based purely off of how obnoxiously popular it was and how retarded the fanbase was. I didn't even play it until after I played the Deltarune demo and learned it was basically the prototype for DR.

It still got to me, in the end.

Reddit community with UT/DR is an absolute clown fiesta, there are hundreds of subreddits about anything tangentially related to UTDR, there's even alt subreddits made for outcasts that couldnt stand the echo chamber of mental illness infecting the main ones.
Prolly is just a split between ppl that just get annoyed by using the wrong character pronouns to the insufferable ones that are a few misgendering kris away from a total mental breakdown.

The Tumblr DR community doesn't seem anywhere near as active as the reddit one (go figure tumblr's like 30k people at this point ) and it's like 50-50 asgore car memes and dadaist shitposts. It's weird. They made that edit with Kris and the soul crashing around in Noelle's house with the simpsons music.

I get where this mentality comes from but at the same time, the industry has become so fucking garbage that I can't help but find it endearing.

I can't name a videogame in the last 10-15 years that got me so interested in it.

I feel like it's not just games at this point, everything has to be so fucking sanitized and fit perfectly into a specific genre mold that the weird outliers wind up interesting even if they've got shitty yuri slop problems. Media that sets up a specific set of expectations and then defies it in a very satisfying way a couple hours in is a goddamned rarity.

The Witness is the last game I can think of that really rugpulled me like that. The entire game is trying to teach you something very subtle about how it works and if you don't figure it out by the time you finish it you're left with an unsatisfying fuck-you of an ending that resets the entire game perfectly setting you up to use the subtle thing, if you figured it out, to get to the true ending in the first 10 minutes after the reset. Perfect schizo theorizing payoff on that one.
