The problem is we've seen what happens when media is like "fuck you all your theories are dumb and wrong and it was really as obvious as it appeared" and it was TADC and I don't think anyone wants a repeat of that.

from what i've seen so far in the game, it seems that most of the lore is locked in so something like that won't happen. toby said on the website that he could make chapters in parallel, so story is probably locked in too.

How would you describe “as obvious as it appeared” though? There are things about Gaster that we already know are true, and we already know with near-certainty what he’s doing, the question is why. There’s not really a widely agreed-upon reason for why he’s doing everything unless you count “for science”. That said, please don’t let it be “because he was curious lol”.

I'm thinking more along the lines of neither confirming nor denying anything. He just kind of shows up and we don't see him do anything related to the plot (that doesn't mean he does nothing related to the plot). The point is to cause a solid year of fans hyperanalyzing him sitting on a bench, eating a hot dog.
