There is a limit, but you can take court fines out of dole money.

Then, the Internet came around and people started avoiding or censoring the word sex to bypass content filters and gender became even more prevalent. "Gender" comes from Greek by way of Latin by way of French and it comes from a word that means type or kind. (Genos > genus > genre ), but has actually been borrowed into English multiple times, hence words like "engender", "generate" and "general", which all descend from the Latin verb "generare". (Etymology and linguistics are long-standing interests of mine if you can't tell.)
Grammatical gender can be masculine, feminine, or neuter (or common/ dual) and how it works specifically varies enormously per language. English is almost completely devoid of grammatical gender except for pronouns, hence the pronoun police.

Likely this is precisely why Russians and other Slavic language speakers are so transphobic.
The term "sexual intercourse" became a euphemistic way to refer to coitus/fucking and became shortened to "sex" and thus the need to distinguish "biological sex" from the other kind of sex, Intercourse also used to mean something more polite than its current connotation too.

Can you imagine the delight troons and pooners would have if, in English, the sentence "yesterday, I bought some stripey socks" could reveal their gender by how they inflected the word 'bought'? They'd revel in it.
