Yeah, I kinda doubt that's true. Frakes directed in Discovery S4, and there are at least a couple of white guys (including Goldsman) who directed for Strange New Worlds' first season.

Wait, really? That's the first I've heard of it.
CBS and Kurtzman's production adopted the DIE agenda right after the first season. They let go their DoP and hired a melanated one so they could claim that he was the First Black DoP in a Star Trek production™.
When they told Duncan-McNeill that they weren't interested anymore since they had already a white male director (Frakes), he then suggested them to hire Roxann Dawson.

if that trailer is any real indication, looks like it might be a quiet finale...a love story?

I actually really liked the finale-- it had all the humor that has been missing from this season, plus the personal stories that I really like. I dunno, I thought it was a pretty good sendoff. I really hope there is another season but if this is it, then I'm satisfied.

I like how the episode went into the reasons why the Prime Directive is a very necessary policy, and why it does ultimately do a lot more good than harm, even if it doesn't seem like it at times - though admittedly the discussion was kinda rendered necessary by the Berman era's inexplicable love for having the crews use the PD as an excuse to sit around while civilizations die, as well as taking a "it's right because it just is, okay?!" attitude whenever people question it.

Oh, and that scene in the bar was a nice little "fuck you" to that bit from DS9 where Ron Moore-via-Nog schools Jake on how the Federation's economic system and philosophy of self-betterment are totally stupid and would never work in reality.

Also interesting how Lysella decided to stay on-board the Orville at the end, rather than have her go home and trying to lead the fight against the upvote/downvote system. Guessing that she's going to become a recurring character if there's another season.

Was a really nice episode. Like others I also hope for more seasons, but if this is it, it's a nice send-off for a show that has grown over these past few years to become one of my absolute favourites.

I feel like the show, its world-building, character development and general vibe is just hitting its stride. There is so much absolute garbage on streaming that gets renewed, it would be nice if this little diamond in the rough manages to continue its lovely ride.

Also:
Is that Scott Grimes singing? I actually prefer this version to James Taylor's.

Nevermind, the episode answered my question for me lol. They better release the superior Molloy version on Spotify.

This scene for some reason had me laughing the most out of this episode.

I suppose I can understand the view of being against bettering a bunch of worthless savages who live by alien twitter. Just not for the exact same reasons. Matter materialization will always be a pipe dream though. The socialist space dream will never come true.

If this really was the final season, it ended too soon. There was so much more left to explore.

Maybe, maybe not. But Seth still deserves props for taking the time to think about and explain how an economy like the Federation's could actually function. It's depiction on Star Trek seemed like a case where Roddenberry depicted his own little utopia without giving any thought to how it would actually work, with the subsequent Berman-era writers clearly thinking "Yeah, this is a dumb idea, but we're just gonna roll with it anyway."

The episode felt like a case where the writers knew the show might be ending and so tried to write a satisfactory conclusion, but also left enough hanging plot threads to let them continue.

If the show does end here, the biggest shame would be that several of the characters still feel kinda under-developed. As much as I didn't like Burke all that much, I have to admit that she still got more backstory and character development in the space of (nearly) one season than Lamarr or Talla have done during their entire time on the show.

Seth is too optimistic on that part. Reputation doesn't work as currency in a currency-less society: it dictates social hierarchy. His world would lack poverty and starvation but there would still be unrest. For someone to be above, there must always be someone below. Imagine the class problem we have in the real world. Now imagine if there really was no way for those on the bottom to work up. Society has rearranged itself so you are no longer on the bottom because of circumstance: you are on the bottom because you are literal trash. No amount of hardwork will elevate your position because that's all you were capable of. The worst thing a stupid person could ever know is how stupid they really are.

Lamarr and Talla didn't need backstory: they just needed to be themselves. Who honestly gave much of a fuck about Burke? The best thing she did was die.

Its also still stupid and only reinforces DS9 rightfully pointing out how retarded and completely impractical the star trek Rodenberry "space utopia with no currency because reasons" still is.

Society would become a eugenicists wet dream with the stupid/lazy luddites stuck at the bottom and forced to breed with other luddites due to their lack of abilities or motivations on a biological level leading to low reputations for them and their spawn. While the ubermensch born with superior abilities and higher motivation would naturally out perform everybody but other ubermensch who they would mate with leading to higher reputations for them and their spawn.

Its just another hierarchy formed from biological reality rather than material reality. The truth of course is that most if not all of Human civilization would become wasteful lard asses with no motivation to do anything if a free matter machine was actually ever invented.

Even if a "reputation based" society was miraculously formed out of this free matter generator, it would still have crap tons of people cheat the system off the backs of people who played fair. Be it by hyping up banal activities into something "good for society", taking credit for others "good work" for society, etc.

I have a lot of posttve things to say about the Orville, later on.

But first I have a big complaint to vent out, if this show gets cancelled. No, not about the show, I mean the fandom menance youtubers, and others like them.

Its no secret most big franchises are going through dark times. Star Wars, Star Trek, among others, are downright unwatchable. They were hijacked by political acitivists acting downright as cultists.

I hate them too. But here's the thing.

Seth literally made Star Trek right. He only changed the names, but this is Star Trek in all but name

Fandom Menance youtubers, instead of acting like beggars expecting the the woke cultists to change, they won't, they could've supported this.

If there was a time to speak with our wallets, this was it. In the end, they were just loyal to a brand and a name.

Fandom menace youtubers are retarded. All they do is talk about how much they hate Disney/Marvel/DC/Star Wars/Whatever. They still buy, they still consume and they still only make content about it. They actively drive viewers to that content and more than that, they keep bringing publicity to those shows and movies. Like, how many times can you say "oh wow, this show has a wacky political agenda". I get that their grift is dependent on raging against woke pop culture shit and whatever, but man. If they wanted to enact any change, they'd just stop talking about it. Stop feeding into the culture war narrative. Just don't give them the free publicity.

I went into this finale accepting the fact that as an actually decent show, there's less of a chance of another season than if it was some garbage like Picard or what the fuck ever licensed ST is on now. It was fun, tied most things up nicely enough, and my eternal waifu came back to visit. ❤

I'll cope now and if season 4 ends up happening it'll be a pleasant and welcome surprise. If not then at least it went out decent and I can rewatch what we already have.

That's what I say about RLM too.
