There are non-fat women with PCOS; it's called 'lean PCOS'. But yes, they're heavily correlated. Can someone settle the chicken or the egg on obesity and PCOS for me? Any woman I've ever known who was overweight or obese has PCOS. This has always made me think that woman have PCOS because they are obese, but the OP makes me think I have it backwards and you get obese because you have PCOS.
There's also mis-diagnosis going on, where doctors will say any fat woman with irregular periods or fertility problems has PCOS. But being obese can cause both of those without PCOS being involved, since excess fat really fucks with your hormones. Even hirsutism has been shown to occur in fat women who don't have PCOS to some degree.
