I fully believe statement is to protect tranpa. I'm no expert in legal statements, but to state firmly the family unit is united and that they're all upset together caught my attention. United is just too specific to not be intentionally merging the one dude everyone is singling out and suspicious of with the family unit again.
I could be wrong, but this wording doesn't fit normal statements I've come across. It feels like the focus is on being united over the actual tragedy of the child.

ETA: also I think the new photo is to not have what looks like a poster for signs of FAS as his main photo. It's also better for showing his personality at least. Poor boy, he was really cute.
No, I think it's saying the parents are united in their grief. It's been reported that Jess has moved out and is living with a friend, no mention of her coming back quietly despite her psycho parents probably threatening to write her out of the will for non-compliance.

And the decomposition of the remains suggests that little Emile’s body was likely preserved in a protected environment – like a freezer.

He was found in an area which had already been thoroughly searched by police, suggesting someone had brought his body back there.

Emile’s grandparents Philippe and Anne Vedovini, both 59, had their DNA taken at the start of the investigation.

They were quizzed by cops for 17 hours after Emile was found dead.

The Vedovinis were arrested in dawn raidsalong with two of their adult children, identified as Émile’s aunt and uncle.

All faced charges of ‘intentional homicide’ and ‘concealing a corpse’, a statement released by Aix-en-Provence prosecutors said.

But all four denied the charges and have since been released from custody.

Mr Philippe is also still under investigation in connection with an entirely different case relating to sexual abuse at a Roman Catholic School in the 1990s.

He has always denied the claims and soon transformed his life into being a monk.

The grandad also admitted to “fifteen minutes of inattention” before the child vanished.

A source close to the investigation told La Depeche the two witnesses who “confirmed that they saw the child walking alone at the time of his disappearance” are “reliable people” who they “trust completely”.

SA Police confirm two members of Gus Lamont's family 'not cooperating' directly with police (L/A)

Some interesting snippets:

"Following Commissioner Stevens's interview, an SA Police spokesperson confirmed "that two family members are only communicating [with police] via their legal representatives"."

"When asked by the ABC if there were any further suspects, a police spokesperson said they were "unable to make any further comment at this point"."

"There has not been one single piece of evidence that we have located during that searching exercise, the most extensive search I think arguably in the history of South Australia, that has given us any indication that he did wander off,"

ETA- It's definitely grandma and tranpa, they were openly reported as having lawyered up. Gus's dad is assisting the police and the mother has apparently moved off the station.

While I don't think lawyering up is a bad idea, refusing to cooperate with police when it comes to a missing kid is utterly reprehensible.

I'm still somewhat perplexed by Grandma and Tranpa each engaging their own criminal defense lawyers instead of sharing the same lawyer, but I'm probably missing something.

Sorry if it was in the thread but do granny and tranpa have separate lawyers? Could gran make a case she is/was under duress? She is either complicit, coerced, or under the impression her "wife" is innocent. (Or senile--but I figured that would be mentioned.)

They have separate lawyers. It makes sense because it means the defence for each of them doesn't need to align.

Yep.

Her lawyers would be free to paint Tranpa as a coercive, controlling, narcissistic monster.

While his can claim he didn't do nuffin' or made an accident and panicked because they're so vulnerable as a trans. They're the real victim. Society is to blame. Or some shit.

Often, a lawyer won't even take on two possible defendants in the same case. I can't remember the exact reason, but I think it's similar to what you just said.
That's exactly it. With two accused one of the most obvious defenses is "it wasn't me it was the other person!" Which makes for quite the conflict of interest.

It's to do with ethics and they have to act in good faith andbe honest. They are not meant to mislead the court.

The justice system is based on the prosecutors proving guilt and the defence lawyers undermining their arguments.

Two clients will have different circumstances, and the ability to poke holes in the prosecutor's case will shrink with that overlap. You want the widest possible scope for defence arguments. In two cases on the same facts, they can't argue contradictory points.

There's a reason dual representation isn't outright forbidden, but there's inherently a latent conflict of interest in any such case. Sometimes, two co-defendants can't afford separate counsel. It's ethical to inform clients that this may happen and to be prepared to refer both defendants to separate counsel if the latent conflict of interest manifests, and have the clients knowingly waive the conflict of interest.

Sometimes, it's so obvious on its face that it's a non-waiveable conflict and the representation is forbidden at the outset.

My opinion in this case is that one of the defendants is the perp and the other knows it.

Just as an example for the ethical rule, though, I'd offer the dual representation of the defendants in My Cousin Vinny. Not joking, this specific movie was used as an example in my ethics class (this movie is literally taught in law school).

Specifically, the reason that dual representation was ethical is that the defense was that neither defendant did the crime, but someone else did, and there was very little likelihood that defense would change.

In some ways this is a nothingburger, but for your overanalyzing pleasure, short new statement from the grandmother delivered through her lawyer when approached for comment by the media on the 6-month anniversary of Gus's disappearance (tranpa and lawyer reportedly refused comment). Linked article below, mostly a recap of the same shit, relevant part here:

Gus's grandparents Shannon and Josie Murray - a transgender woman - have both enlisted the services of high-profile Adelaide defence lawyers. Josie hired Andrew Ey while Shannon is represented by Casey Isaacs, who issued a statement on behalf of his client - the last known person to see Gus alive - on Thursday evening.

"(Shannon) is still supporting Josie, co-operating through her solicitors and hoping to find Gus, (and) hoping that some information comes to light soon," he told the Adelaide Advertiser.

Personally this heaps more confirmation bias fuel on my bigot fire that tranpa is the suspect that SAPOL alluded to, given that it seems weird otherwise to specify that she's 'still supporting' him, without a word about his parents, her daughter, her living relative that presumably would need the most support after this and who SAPOL keep emphasizing isn't a suspect in his disappearance. But no, trans most affected and must be centered, always, so her grieving daughter comes second and that means last, does not place.

8 months later, still missing, still no arrests. The cops ran so far out of ideas they brought in Abo trackers since they still live in hunter gather conditions to find the kid and there’s nothing. Ozlander bros I know logs specks eyes yada yada but is this fuck up just accepted in day to day life over there or does the average Joe also see the absurdity?
