but it should be illegal, or highly frowned upon, to have drastically different artists do the covers vs the interior art.
For me, the worst instance of this was when they got Mike Mignola (Hellboy creator) to do the cover for a witcher graphic novel. I opened it up expecting a witcher story in that awesome style, but the interior just looked like every other bland, forgettable, comic book out there.

Lmao I noticed this with Kingdom Kong.

To quote AVGN: What were they thinking?

Comics being shit is talked to death, but manga is not that much better. Unless you care only for the action/comedy, it's better to wait for a manga to conclude than to follow it until it gets cancelled because "didn't sell enough/author is in jail/author is dead/author got pissed with the publishers". Also you should hope the conclusion isn't shit that retroactively ruins the work, like Chainsaw Man did.

Of course there's also the hope the manga actually advanced rather than get stuck on a plot point for fucking years. Are they still on that boat? Or just turn the shit because the author watched Game of Thrones and wanted to make his work like that.

Also personally I don't like the lack of colouring, with the worse artists some scenes are complete incomprehensible.

A lot of mangas start with good ideas, but those ideas get fumbled so badly that it's not worth reading past the first volumes.

There’s a difference between “they’re still on the boat because the author has health issues,” and “we’ve been on the boat for 400 chapters.”
According to Google the Boat arc was around 60 chapters, the Golden Age arc was 90 chapters. The latter being the basis of the entire plot, while the former being the group traveling from point A to B.

But even besides the boat, it's not like there aren't any shortages of manga meandering on plot arcs, like Frieren turning into a battle shonen in the mage exam arc.

Strong , powerful and believable female characters that are also fun to watch do exist believe it or not.

The catch is that they are all in Manga. If you read comics only of course you will be tired of all the obnoxious girl bosses.
And most of them aren't written by creepy self loathing insecure men!

Check out the original run of Spider-Girl or the 90s run of Shehulk if you want female characters as good as manga.

I wasn't defending comics, I was pointing out that is how far back you have to go to get good female characters.
Fair enough. There have been more good female characters in comics if you are willing to look outside the Big 2. I liked Switch - Electricia. I think we owe to give other companies their due.

Well, often the main difference is that they are attractive, but still hold the same writing issues but people care less because awooga

I think peak Garfield was around 1990. Not the early awkward days, not the later stale days. Back when Garfield and Friends was made.
Jim Davis has explicitly stated that 9 Lives of Garfield was the peak creatively for the franchise as it was the last time he self admitted to truly givee a shit about trying to make something special before turning the franchise into a soulless cash cow.

And outside his hard embargo on using Arleen, Davis was hands off on Garfield and Friends, with professional Jack Kirby dick rider Mark Evanier basically running the show and making it such a huge hit

Fun fact; that is also why Mignola refuses to work for Marvel to this very day. He got roped into drawing a fill in/flashback issue of X-Force when Liefeld couldn't keep his deadline and drew a cover for it. But but Bob Harras hated Mignola's artwork and the fact that Rob explicitly picked him to draw it and forced Rob to rush out a cover for the issue since he was afraid of the backlash.

Mignola's cover ended up being used as a pin up but he was so pissed off that he told Harras and DeFalco he would never work for Marvel ever again.

(And Harras was right, the issue was widely hated when it came out)
