That one's actually got one of the few good "serious jax" moments but also one of the worst ones. Best one being when he basically points out to pomni they're literally just playing a fucking game and none of them are actually getting hurt from the shooting and worst one being where he suddenly goes all "HAHA GRRR I'M SO ECVIL AND DON'T CARE ABOUT ANY OF YOU HAHAHA AAAAAAA" and it's blatantly like him putting on a retarded front trying to push pomni away cause his close friend and frog gf fucking died previously.

Actually that makes the episode 9 addition of him actually intentionally pushing them to that by ignoring them even more fucking retarded on top of the weird ghost ribbit message and the literal ghost ribbit ecounter sparking the weed dream sequence at one point in prior episodes that implies their relationship didn't end in the way it's shown in episode 9. More proof this sthing was made up as it went along outside "jax dies at the end" I guess.

Fuck Fagatha. She's a petty tyrant who would do evils far worse than Caine if she had any power at all.

Also the production quality was shockingly high for a youtube series. That alone gave me the false sense that there'd also be some competency in the writers room. Alas.

The writing worked well enough until it tried to turn serious, which in turn raised the requirement from "funi clown show" to "this story should actually make some degree of sense and have compelling payoffs", which ended up being too high a bar for Gooseworx.

Instead, shockingly, that was Pomni's twist, even though she had always been so in tune with the emotional needs of others especially when they were on the edge of suicide.

Like, actually have Jax deal with unprocessed guilt instead of just being a potential murderer who was afraid of jail time... geez, then you would get to be the prison bitch, you would have liked it. Or you could have trooned out and gone to the women's prison where you would have so many targets to abuse.

Also if it tied back into the lore, I figured Jax and Ribbit might have been friends on the outside and while goofing around distracted driving wrapped a car around a pole and left her crippled. Then it could explain why they would try mind scans, and be both at fault enough for blame and yet somewhat sympathetic too.

But no, probably just replaying the time GW almost got some poon and fucked up so royally it haunts him to this day. Missing the flirting through all the tism.

Honestly if the Jax half of episode 9 was swapped with episode 8 the whole thing would have been much better.

Currently the motivation for rebelling against Caine was how he tricked them during ep. 7, which kinda falls flat as we all know.

If the sequence of events went something like this:

1. Ep. 7 happens as it does, everyone is pissed at Jax
2. Ep. 8 it's shown that because of his actions Jax got isolated from the rest of the group, Jax then abstracts, the sequence with Pomni happens as it did, Jax is now established to be docile but Cane throws him into the cellar, the episode ends with everyone staring at Cane with obvious disgust.
3. A new episode 9 would have to be made which would begin with the cast agruing with Cane about how condemming Jax to the cellar was unecessary, or even how he could be unabstracted. Cane gets pissed roughly how he did in the show, goes mad and is deleted at the end, the brain scan revelation happens and the credit sequence shows how they made it work in the circuss without Cane. A kind of bleak but hopefull 'you need to play the hand you're delt' ending.

The decision to make Jax the centerpiece at the cost of everything else in the finale really hurt this show's story, setting, and other characters, Pomni is a flat protagonist who doesn't really have a real personality outside of Jax, Kinger is a schizo who's only real purpose is to spout some important exposition, Caine's redemption arc starts and completes in like 15 minutes, while Ragatha, Zooble, and Gangle are all useless characters who have no actual contribution, and the circus setting itself is barely thought out

Nice character-driven show you got there.

Reminder that this all started only halfway through, prior to this, the show was just relatively harmless wacky adventures and light character development, I would not have remained so mad about this so much if Goose had a much more focused vision, if what he truly wanted for his show was Jax the Jerk and his tranny issues, he should have done this from the very start, remove the wacky adventures, remove Caine's crash out, remove all the other barely developed arcs for the supporting cast, you can't do all of these as you'd just half-ass everything.

The audience are going to set their expectations from what they will initially see, switching the plot halfway and expecting everyone else to just be happy with it is a recipe for disaster.

The world is far too small for that to happen and Caine makes them play games and go on adventures together so they are all forced to interact. Besides Kaufmo being her friend, Ribbit and Ragatha were also shown to be friends when Ragatha asks to team up with her again during the Jax pov segment, either of the two should have sensed something is up because it is hard to ignore it. Especially when Jax tells Kaufmo to ignore Ribbit (even though they have been friends for longer). Also Jax's actions are treated way too lightly. The way Ragatha acts mildly annoyed at him in the show and her passive "not any more" comment when Pomni asks if Jax has friends like they weren't her friends too. So either Ragatha never had any real friends in the circus (dispite seeming caring about everyone she is rarely seen hanging out with any of them because the show has poorly establishment group dynamics) and should have abstracted way sooner from loneliness or she should be absolutely pissed at Jax for killing HER FRIENDS (they were together before he showed up) and doing everything she can to stop Pomni from talking to him.

Where was Jax ever in the wrong? Go rewatch the guns episode and realize how much Pomni grows with Jax literally the second she takes even a tiny step outside of her comfort zone.

Then go re-watch the Ragatha episode and note what a hateful bitch she is. Jax doesn't think a negative thing about Ragatha, Jax doesn't think about fucking Ragatha, but this raggedy-anne-ass whore is constantly trying to machinate and manipulate Tangle, the only person Jax has any deference towards, into abandoning Jax. And what for? She even admits, it's because she doesn't have the quality of character to stand up to Jax herself and be honest about how much she fucking hates him for basically no reason. She even admits in the show that she cannot stand the idea of him hating her. She's a full-on hypocrite and phoney.

If you think Jax is the bad guy, I can almost guarantee almost everyone in your life finds you exhausting to be around. Only cry-bullies are unable to see the lessons Jax imparts. Hate to break it to you but someone not bending the knee how you think they should be socially, is no reason to hate them.

I mean if the creator of the show as well as multiple individuals on the production side are saying Jax is supposed to be trans I take that as a pretty solidly authoritative resolution to the question at hand. The tranny creator wrote a self-insert (by their own admission) who is also trans, big shocker. I do think it was meant to be somewhat ambiguous, either as a way to bait theoryfags or to avoid censorship, and frankly I would’ve respected Gooseworx more had he kept it that way, but that’s frankly too much to ask for a social media addicted tranny to do.

I think the best approach if they want to continue the series / earn income would be to have an ATHF style continuation where everything is back to normal and nobody ever acknowledges what happened in the previous episodes ever and big funny happens.

Seriously, why do all these recent ‘adult comedy animations’ end up so lore heavy and continuous? A big part of comic animation is being able to torture/maim characters with no consequences.

Basically, it would be like Classic SMG4, where continuity was practically nonexistent; for example, Mario could accidentally kill himself or commit suicide on purpose and be fine in the next episode or even the next scene, or Mario could destroy Peach's Castle or the entire fucking Earth and everything would be back to normal in the next episode. There were even three versions of how Mario was born. Of course, all of this was thrown out the window in 2019 with Desti's death in the Anime Arc, which was permanent and given a lot of importance (despite being a very minor character), and from then on, SMG4 focused heavily on the lore and started to have continuity that wasn't even consistent.

Empathy Porn or 'catharsis' as something to aim at just for its own sake when writing stories, has always been garbage. Complete and utter trash. It was always cringe. It was shit when the ancient Greeks did it, and it still is shit today. This meme needs to die, and it needs to die forever. In any story written for entertainment, hardship for a fictional character should always be a device to make the recovery, the moment when they overcome the hardship, all the more satisfying. If your story never reaches this post-hardship emergence, then you failed as a writer and shouldn't be writing stories.

This reminded me of Eden Lake. Fuckass movie is just torture porn until the most amazing final act happens when the MC finally strikes back and actually got the abusers what they fucking deserve until the final scene where it's all undone and the MC is killed offscreen by the parents of the psychos.

Edit: OH, and Squid Games season 3 as well suffer this same fucking problem
