Governments need to collect more and more taxes as their populations age and their pet browns grow more plentiful. You can't really tax the poor, they don't have enough to take, and in most places they're net receivers. You can't tax the rich, they're not a lot of them, a lot of them can just move away, and above a certain tax % there is no reason for them to invest more. If you lose 70 cents for every dollar extra you make, you just don't bother and spend more time with your family. The only good target is the middle class. There are a lot of them, and they have enough expendable income to take.
The result is this weird tax regime where the poor get gibs, the middle class gets milked like crazy and experience an effective tax of 80%, as they lose gibs while being the target of every new fundraising policy, and the top pays decent amount of tax but still have a reason to work more.
The middle bracket figures out they're the government's ATM and check out. Why double your gross income if your net income becomes 20% more?

During my studies I had a course on photovoltaics, technically speaking they're quite interesting. During the first lecture you get your standard "why even bother with this?". They have a really effective 1-2 combo of "we're all gonna die!" and "look at these amazing advances". We can technology our way out of this with zero compromise to our life is a really effective bait. Add to that, in the EU politicians love to grab a topic and make it theirs. They'll hold onto it their entire career and refuse to compromise. If it's rapefugees, they'll fight to keep them in, even as rape gangs roam the streets. If it's renewables, they'll celebrate construction of 5 windmills even as it becomes obvious the math doesn't check out. Renewables are also great projects for politicians and civil servants. They love to have their pet project they can flaunt. No one wants to be the boring guy just making the poverty level go down 2% and keep the roads maintained. Renewables work great for this. Local governments can shit on the poor and force windmills in their backyard. Regional governments can fuck over their least favorite county, and national governments can pretend they're a wartime cabinet fighting global warming. Wartime governments tend to have a lot of support.

Another thing that pisses me off massively about renewable-acolytes is the incredible amounts of double standards that they don't seem to notice. They'll acknowledge that it'll take 20-30 years just to build the batteries and in the same breath say that nuclear power takes too long. They'll decry nuclear power plant concepts, SMRs, waste reduction technology, all as paper dreams that don't exist, and will immediately state that solid state batteries are coming, that 10 GWh grid scale batteries are being traded with, and other wondrous technologies being just around the corner. Nuclear power is heavily reliant on subsidies and could never survive on the free market, but don't you dare take away the guaranteed prices for renewables so they even make money when electricity prices become negative (which happens more and more the more overcapacity you have installed).
Besides the sheer construction problems of making that many batteries, has anyone of them looked at how large a meager 300 MWh grid battery facility is? And we need A LOT of those, in addition to the massive overcapacity of renewables installed, which also take up a lot of space. No, they haven't. They just see various CGI mockups that do not show the actual scale.

Actually they love the wind parks blotting out the landscapes, they're constantly harping on about my state not having enough (even though we have the most solar capacity and our wind potential is rather meager) wind power because they want people to be constantly reminded of climate change. What better way than to have a big-ass wind power plant visible in every direction at all times?
And most of the other states have their landscapes turned into wind farms, looking like shit, while my state explicitly doesn't want that to happen. Renewafags hate that. They don't want untouched nature (as far as nature is untouched anywhere in Germany) or having happy, natural places. They want our state to be as miserable to look at as all the others.
It's where you notice it's really about ideology and not actually decolonisation. My state has a large capacity for renewables and is actually doing quite well there, but since it's not as immediately visible in the form of wind power, it's not enough. It's getting worse, my state government pledged to go all in on nuclear fusion research, driving to get a fusion power plant ASAP. That really pisses people off, because 30 years and trillions of euros is fine if it's for wind power and battery parks, but for nuclear power of any form? REEEEE

/edit: Regarding EV as grid storage, these people somehow don't understand that if like 3TWh storage is needed and all of that is in 40 million EVs, then those EVs cannot function as EVs anymore. Sure, EVs can be used for smoothing out peaks and dips over the day where you basically got a net surplus in the end, but for that you don't need 3 TWh capacity. That's the kind of capacity you need when you have long periods of low renewable production, and guess what, if you have your car connected to the grid it'll be discharged, not charged, and it'll be emptier and emptier because the grid apparently needs 3 TWh, and that means the entire capacity of 40 million cars. And that means your car will be fucking empty until the weather gets better. But they don't get that.

As far as I know there's local testing/grading and international grading. So within Somalia the average IQ is 100, but compare it to China and it'd be more like 80, and some 83 in a worldwide scale. I don't know if local grading is actually done in any meaningful way, I think it's always done on a worldwide comparison.
And sure, you'll find 100 IQ Somalians, they'll just be as rare as, dunno, 130 IQ Germans, I guess. Depends on how skewed the distribution is. Could be that in some countries it's more of a symmetric distribution around 100, in others it leans more lower. Also, the FWHM is different from population to population.
