Steven Universe Fandom

You know, I said something like this in one of the many different MLP lolcow threads, and I think it fits well here as well:

Sadly, this happens to every fandom. A small, mutated part of it suddenly swells and engulfs the rest of the fandom, until it's seen as what's "normal" for the fandom. It's how you end up with stuff like Superwholock and anime weeaboos. It happens to every fandom, some just mutate faster than others.

It's just sad that some people had to take it wasaaay too far with their interest in the show

#don't make the flower crown the new fedora
The ship has already sailed for that as well as unnaturally colored hair. Fortunately we're in the stage where the group produces a bunch of hilariously over-defensive rants/pieces defending their poor fashion choice. Happened with fedora/trilby wearers before they dropped those for the most part. Tumblr still thinks those hats are associated with "MRA dudebros" though, gotta update their stereotype.

I get what they're trying to say, a big part of SU is that it is mostly adults watching and the fans react poorly to attempts to try to make it more accessible to actual kids. Be it a crossover, more comedy, etc.

On the positive side, it shows that regular fans of SU are starting to call out the fanatics on their bullshit.

They're all still really pissed over that crossover:

Note the one blogger who insinuates that Pete Browngardt, the creator of Uncle Grandpa, is a pedophile, compares him to Skyler Page, a cartoonist who was fired from Cartoon Network for sexually harassing female animators, and talks about how he wants to punch him in the throat. Also, I laughed at the one at the end who was triggered by seeing that some people enjoyed the episode.
These people make me ashamed to be a Steven Universe fan.

Última edición:
Anyone who actually gets upset over the narrative and cannon of a children's cartoon should seriously consider taking a good, long look in the mirror and question what they're doing with their life.

The thing about guys in drag in TV shows isn't even about "Haha look they're wearing women's clothing!". More often than not the joke is on how unconvincing they look / the lengths they will go to for what, by realistic standards is inconsequential. For example, Timon doesn't need to wear hula to attract the hyenas, but it's done anyway and the joke is how over the top and out of place it is in comparison to Simba going home to kill the person who killed his dad.

As for everything else, remember you're here to laugh guys, don't worry about the crazies who think Steven Universe is Christ in cartoon form. Just laugh at them. It's the easier than being mad and you show them how ridiculous they are.

In this case it was "haha you really thought it was Rose for a second!".

Can't help but feel they're gonna get even worse though, given season 5 of small horses has started now.

See, this whole Say Uncle debacle highlights one of the most fucked up things about the SJW movement.
The moment you step even a little bit out of line, you're instant malicious scum even if you did everything perfectly and progressively before. Unless you're on top of your game and constantly pleasing and catering to every group, you can't win. And even if you do that, then the moment you do something wrong you're fucked. Which leads into the whole bullshit about how SJWs are more willing to scream and cry and throw shit at someone whose ignorant than have to trouble themselves with remaining calm and enlightening them. They want overnight immediate full social progress. They're not willing to pick their battles, take baby steps, or help anyone. If you can't revolutionize society in one swift move, they don't even want to hear about it. If you aren't squeaky clean up to literally all of their standards all of the time, then no matter how much of a reasonable, prominent social advocate you are, you're no better than Hitler and don't even deserve recognition for what you do right.

Regardless of if the episode is "problematic" there is literally no excuse for any of these fans to be acting this way. The SU crew clearly tries their best to be socially responsible, tackle tough issues, and listen to their fans. They are putting in an effort and they don't deserve to be talked down to with this stupid fucking "I expected better out of you" attitude.

The thing I hate about SJWs is the way they tarnish anyone else who's standing up for the same things they've decided to rant about. I'm going to use trans as an example here. I do a lot of work with transgender rights, and anymore, I constantly have to preface what I say with "I'm not one of the crazy ones, I won't bite your head off".

For the vast majority of people, the "bigotry" that SJWs like to rant about is more ignorance than anything else. Ignorance is very easy to cure, if you address the person rationally and politely. "Hey man, could you not call me "tranny"? Yeah that word has some bad feeling attached to it. Cool, I appreciate it." Nope, according to SJWs, I shouldn't be educating others, they should just know, they're bigots etc etc...

It doesn't take much to turn someone who's ignorant into a bigot. Throwing a conniption fit at a person who innocently misuses a pronoun, for example, is a great way to change someone who just doesn't know, into someone who feels justified in being offensive. And that, in the end, is what SJWs want; not to find an end to bigotry, but to generate more people to be offended at.

If my mom caught me acting like that over a freaking cartoon, she'd slap the shit of me and say
"You're too old for that." If I ever had a kid and s/he was unfortunate to act this way, I'd do the same.

Basically they hate female characters unless they're what a man in the 1990's would create as a character to sell a "GRRRL POWER" band or something. God help you if you like a character that is shy, polite, passive, agreeable, or gets along well with others. Then you're just writing a misogynist fantasy, you shitlord.

So basically, their idea of a positive female role model is a dude with tits. I suppose that explains why they can take Brianna Wu seriously.

Actually, they said very little about the premiere. They got a little upset people keep calling the antagonist a SJW and talk about how she was more like a cult leader, ignoring how her tactics were incredibly similar to one.

But for the most part? The show isn't en vogue for them anymore. They've got another, better vessel for their childish political observations in Steven Universe.

Fresh of my dash. These people are either blissfully ignorant of what happened or are too delusional.

I mean they still won't shut the fuck up about Meowthkip's post. You rustled some good jimmies there dude.

Good.

Also, somebody linked me to this.

I must be a weirdo or something, 'cause I developed an appreciation for drag and gender role reversals pretty much through jokes like these from cartoons. But according to this, it's supposed to re-enforce my latent transphobia.
