A lot of these people are pretty racist towards anyone and anything Japanese, who they see as backward and misogynistic. It even applies to anything inspired by Japanese artwork or anime/manga, there is a LOT of hate for most women in anime. Or any anime art drawn by Westerners.

Basically they hate female characters unless they're what a man in the 1990's would create as a character to sell a "GRRRL POWER" band or something. God help you if you like a character that is shy, polite, passive, agreeable, or gets along well with others. Then you're just writing a misogynist fantasy, you shitlord.

Somehow, though, they think Attack on Titan is a good example of a progressive series, despite the fact it becomes really uncomfortable when you know Isayama's politics (and is also shit).

See, this whole Say Uncle debacle highlights one of the most fucked up things about the SJW movement.
The moment you step even a little bit out of line, you're instant malicious scum even if you did everything perfectly and progressively before. Unless you're on top of your game and constantly pleasing and catering to every group, you can't win. And even if you do that, then the moment you do something wrong you're fucked. Which leads into the whole bullshit about how SJWs are more willing to scream and cry and throw shit at someone whose ignorant than have to trouble themselves with remaining calm and enlightening them. They want overnight immediate full social progress. They're not willing to pick their battles, take baby steps, or help anyone. If you can't revolutionize society in one swift move, they don't even want to hear about it. If you aren't squeaky clean up to literally all of their standards all of the time, then no matter how much of a reasonable, prominent social advocate you are, you're no better than Hitler and don't even deserve recognition for what you do right.

Regardless of if the episode is "problematic" there is literally no excuse for any of these fans to be acting this way. The SU crew clearly tries their best to be socially responsible, tackle tough issues, and listen to their fans. They are putting in an effort and they don't deserve to be talked down to with this stupid fucking "I expected better out of you" attitude.

Because it's typically the one anime they grew up with, outside of Pokemon and a few others. Ignoring that, by most standards the show just does not hold up (and I'm saying this as a fan), they've enshrined it to a degree that it's kind of surprising.
