In fact, I always felt that there was a strong possibility that a sequel would have a different protagonist anyway because using Eve again would necessitate canonizing one of the first game's very-different endings, and I don't think I've ever heard of a game doing that.

Silksong notably did this by having the protagonist of the first game show up at the end in a form that it only ever takes in an incredibly difficult to get ending that only 5% of players actually achieved so maybe the same thing will happen with Eve.
