I genuinely thought this was a Rick and Morty spinoff/parody 'til I saw the Star Trek logo.
It represents something a despise about a lot of modern animation. That show "Central Park" is a palette swapped Bob's Burgers. This show is a palette swapped Rick and Morty. Go back and watch some older Warner Brothers cartoons. There were some common themes and tropes across shows, but they didn't look literally identical so their sister shows. Even Futurama had its own character versus The Simpsons.

These new shows are the same assets with a different color typed into the "fill" command.

It would be awesome if they would stop raping Roddenberry 's corpse.
You're talking about the same man that balooned the budget of the first ST movie back in 1979 and fucked over the staff of TNG until he died. He probably wouldn't give two shits about how good or bad Lower Decks turned out as long as it was a success.

And after watching the trailer, I don't think that's happening. You can tell this was made by someone from R&M just by the humor and animation style.

I feel like a lot of jokes that were in the trailer were already done better in Futurama. I’m not opposed to the idea of an irreverent comedy set in the Star Trek universe, but Futurama casts a pretty big shadow.

Star Trek: Lower Decks trailer looks like a poor Rick and Morty clone

McMahan: STAR TREK: LOWER DECKS is ‘Definitely’ Canon

They turned off the comments and ratings of the trailer on Youtube:
The comments and rating were disabled because they were overwhelmingly negative. It was about 1/3rd more dislikes than likes when I watched it.

Before it even got 400k view they had to turn off comments and ratings because the negative reactions were drowning out any positive. Naturally.

Right about now the executives at CBS are high fiving one another because their plan to release terrible versions of popular older shows will once again get the "spite watcher" to mindlessly consume.

This has pretty much everything that I hate about current Western entertainment:
- CalArts aesthetic
- everybody acts like a preteen after drinking 3 Red Bulls
- nothing is taken seriously
- "we wuv da science" (basically, everybody is super smart and super into science but the writers clearly have no clue and do zero research to make it even slightly believable, making it feel like what a 10 year old thinks science is)
- all the men are either dudebros or they're feminized to the point of being castrated (except the black guy because black lives matter or something)
- butchering the source material completely

Remember when Enterprise and The Final Frontier were the bad ones?
Good times.

>first show with actual gay niggers from outer space
>they proceed to fuck up the comedy aspect

How do these people keep jobs?

The concept has some potential. It'd be interesting and hilarious to look at the blue-collar esque workers aboard a starship. Everyone pays attention to the leaders and a few of the officers, but not so much the people trying to keep the ship from exploding. You could even make sort of a mockumentary style show a la The Office that's just about these people.

Unfortunately, given Trek's trajectory, this idea's going to waste. Plus it's going too over-the-top and whimsical which already isn't really Trek in the first place. It would have worked better as something more dry and tongue-in-cheek than whatever this is.

It could work, just not in this format, not by these people, and not with this pandering.

All this will accomplish is helping Rick & Morty to look a lot better in comparison.

So either Star Trek is Grim Dark retarded or just plain retarded. CBS should just stop. The property is fucking dead.

Mike will edit it so he's debating himself.

I'd honestly like to see a TNG era side series with a different ship and crew where the Enterprise is maybe mentioned once or twice but completely contained in it's own story. Not like DS9 which was pretty incestuous with TNG, but something that takes place in the third season or so of TNG in a whole other part of the galaxy. I know it will never happen but I'd prefer it to drek like Discovery and this cartoon.

I'm honestly not even entirely sure what you mean by "incestuous". In my opinion, there wasn't nearly enough crossover between TNG and DS9... Anyway, you seem to be asking for Star Trek Voyager... if maybe set a bit earlier but... Voyager already exists... O-o

I meant there was a lot of crossover, I don't see how any more or less TNG crossover into DS9 could have improved it. And no, Voyager was it's own thing and honestly not very good except for Jeri Ryan's tits. I also feel Janeway was wasted on it. I just want something different that actually respects the established prime Canon instead of all this JJ Trek shit they keep doing. I would say maybe a more militaristic Trek but I believe Enterprise already covered that and it would probably make Trekkies ree.

There were exactly 2 direct crossovers between TNG and DS9 (and there should have been more.) The first was the thematically important first episode of DS9 where Sisko and Picard had an epic conversation/confrontation. This was nothing less than an early declaration from DS9 about how it would be different from TNG... and the second was when Riker randomly called up Quark to get some info about the TNG plot of the week. Between the two of them, we are literally talking about less than 10 minutes total, over 14 cumulative seasons of television.
