Is anyone willing to throw me a bone here?
What are some good freeplay stalker modpacks that are preferably based on Anomaly or Call of Chernobyl that retain the vanilla edge of the original games?
I hate Gamma, I hate repair mechanics in Anomaly, and I hate bloat, but I do like mods.
To give you something in return and a frame of reference, I recently started playing Radiophobia which is an overhauled version of Shadow of Chernobyl running on a better engine. It's really good.

Try this site cheeki.zone, specifically in the call of chernobyl tab under call of pripyat.

I remember there being a mod for Anomaly that removes trash items and reverts most textures and models back to the originals. I can't remember it's name though.

You could also try going Narodnaya Solyanka 2016. It adds a ton of content around the base story of SoC and has infinitely repeatable quests.

There's also OGSR, which just like NS2016 adds a lot of content on top of the main story.

The two latter mods definitely last for a long time.

I just did a full re-play of Call of Pripyat with the Gunslinger mod. Fucking awesome mod by the way, however the burers and pseudogiants are broken OP and you should have a gauss gun to kill them instantly. Strelok's SG-550 remains one of the best rifles as usual, with its high accuracy and low easy to control recoil. Go loot all 3 of Strelok's stashes to get his rifle immediately.
The Armsel protecta STRIKER is also free at the jupiter factory, yeah the drum mag shotgun. Honestly I just noticed that this game gives you so many legendary strong weapons for free, I almost feel like I'm @SandyCat with all the free shit I keep receiving.

how many people here played vanilla? im just curious btw i did play vanilla trilogy
I played both SoC and CoP vanilla extensively. Maybe one day I'll bother completing CS, but I can't be bothered to touch free roam mods, I find those to be boring. I never liked gamma or anomaly.

Speaking of the enhanced editions, were there ever any decent mods released for them?
as far as i know nah, only some little things on steam workshop (and censorship removal because of course you gotta censor something that is snapshot of an era because russians or something), everyone else just keep doing on vanilla/xray forks

There never was, is, or will be a reason to play the Enhanced Editions instead of the originals. They are straight up a downgrade in all but few aspects. They're even more glitchy and crashprone than their 20 year old versions. They don't even support the mods made for the originals.

In fact, it's essentially the same situation, like actually identical to the definitive edition of GTA. It's a console port ported back onto PC with barely any adjustments, and is just straight up dogshit when put next to the old version of San Andreas.
