Escape from Tarkov is one of the most puzzling games I have played. The lore, setting, and characters are compelling, but they are mostly overshadowed by its bad MMO mechanics. Beneath the awful MMO servers and greedy business practices, there is a horror-themed military shooter with significant potential. The story content of Escape from Tarkov resembles a pre-Rainbow Six Siege Tom Clancy game infused with horror elements.
it's a homer car of a video game that had non-functional radiation and biotoxins bars on your character screen for the 5 years i played it before they finally removed them 10 years after they announced the game. they did an entire presser on gas grenades and gas masks and literally never followed up on it. like half of the guns they show off being modeled and animated never make it into the game.

the story is just STALKER through the lens of low IQ russian propaganda. it's a game so nobody really criticizes it too deeply and it's foreign propaganda so people are not primed to notice it as propaganda, but it's pretty shameless in it's posturing about of russia's military and government strength and the corruption of western military infrastructure. besides your run-of-the-mill rusaboo favoritism like war thunder is infamous for the entire game is full of maintenance propaganda for westerners

I agree with the first part. The development of Tarkov was, is and will be a shitfest, and the only good thing that came out of it is SPT and using it's assets for other projects.

The second part gives off massive :politisperg:vibes though. The Russian military isn't shown in some propagandic light - their special forces (which have been reformed into BEAR) have difficulty controlling the situation/fulfilling their objective in Tarkov and their military can't withstand a Scav attack on the terminal. Prapor is a corrupt officer selling army stock to people stuck in Novrinsk and I'm pretty sure there is a sideplot about the elections in Tarkov being corrupt/rigged.
The main goal of the game is exposing the inhumane experiments of Terragroup, and not toppling Western society.
There isn't even any western military in the game. You have 2 PMC factions akin to Blackwater and the UN, which just like in real life does absolutely nothing.
This is frankly the first time I see the words "Tarkov" and "propaganda" next to each other.

a story where the russians are a corrupt but competently put-together force of organized crime and government corruption fending off an imperialist invasion by shadow organizations acting as proxies for the west is a little bit too on the nose

the quest text hints at this massive logistical operation to provide all of these resources and materiel to the PMCs fighting, the concept art shows it, but in game you never see or get involved in any of that. there is some flavor to the traders, but it doesn't really go anywhere, you retrieve a constant stream of boring red herrings. the cultist stuff is kind of original but it's just a contrived illuminati/freemason thing that's just an excuse to tie all of this disparate shit into a conclusion. there's bosses with some flavor too but they're also all ex-uniform guys that rape you with their superior training and gear.

i'm not calling it sophisticated propaganda, it's just a pale reflection of reality with a thin excuse to shove the player into a secret underground laboratory to steal nefarious documents from evil americans. stalker has a bunch of factions with different motivations, tarkov just did the bare minimum horde vs alliance thing and clearly favors the horde.

Seems more like a pet peeve of yours about a mediocre game.
And about the logistical stuff, do you want the game to have logistical hubs and stuff like that?
Or like have you drive trucks?
I dont get it

you spend an inordinate chunk of time doing busywork collecting medkits and equipment for quests in the vein of "we need 5 kevlar armors we ran out of armor!" from the trader that you're buying armor from every raid. prapor is clearly just a less developed version of sidortovich. for a game that tries to be super autistically detailed about everything and super atmosphereic, it has pretty much no world building. It has the idea of world building, where it hints that maybe there could be detail in these places when they decide to flesh it out, but they don't and won't. the concept art of ragman that shows him in a bustling marketplace is starkly contrasted with the actual in-game model where he's alone in an office

etc etc etc

A new trailer for S2's DLC.
Along with the trailer, some more information also came out.
Although it was obvious, the 2.0 update will come along with the DLC release, the 2.0 update contains a big overhaul to systems and an engine upgrade. It's good to have it in writting at least.

After the trailer dropped, GSC answered a question in their discord sharing that, tomorrow a blog post about the DLC would come out.
