Thanks for the video, he was definitely the same old JCD until the end. I may have seen some of his articles over the years, and possibly something on techTV in the very brief exposure I had to it, but I don't distinctly recall, and that video is before my time. It was all No Agenda and DH Unplugged for me.

This made me sad. I have a backlog of a few episodes to listen to and John is the highlight of the show for me. Now I know after the few episodes I have left it just won't be the same.

Just last week he made me chuckle in the crew lounge while I was doing paperwork and prompted me to "hit someone in the mouth" (told the guy sitting across from me about the show when he asked what I was listening to).

I remember his articles in PC Magazine and that ran every other week? Jokes about some of his predictions that didn't land aside (eg the mouse will never catch on), he had a strong voice and generally saw through bullshit. I think he got the hammer from his last regular writing gig for coming out against 5G? Which... Some would say was crack pot, and some would say the jury is still out. But boy, did Qualcomm and the other advertisers not like it.

I followed him across the nascent podcasts as well after techtv- Mevio is how he met Adam, and the rest was history. His tech5 podcast on mevio was great. And let us also remember the Tech Grouch:

I think I said something about this before in this thread (or the Grinds My Gears one), but can we (humans, not KFers) knock this shit off?

For one, a former NFL player shouldn't need to take donations for future expenses. They're the 1% of the 1% of the 1% at what they do in one of the world's biggest professional sports organizations and should be compensated accordingly.

Separately, I feel like Big Media is just injecting this into every obit via some backroom agreement with crowd-funding platforms, setting up shell accounts to collect funds (not hard to automate, though finding legit names of relatives might be tough), and either keeps it or turns the funds over if an actual family member makes a stink about it.

This Fox affiliate is owned by NextStar Media Group, which is large enough to be publicly traded, so do with that what you will.
