This made me sad. I have a backlog of a few episodes to listen to and John is the highlight of the show for me. Now I know after the few episodes I have left it just won't be the same.

Just last week he made me chuckle in the crew lounge while I was doing paperwork and prompted me to "hit someone in the mouth" (told the guy sitting across from me about the show when he asked what I was listening to).

I'm absolutely heartbroken. Genuinely. I love that guy.

I was too young to know him from his now famous Computer Chronicles appearance, but I was just old enough, and autistic/nerdy enough to know him from Silicon Spin on ZDTV. That show was great. If you can find old episodes online it's really funny watching him give those silicon valley yuppies shit with his typical incredulity and snark. Been an avid fan since then. Real Computing, Cranky Geeks, TWiT (only ever watched if he was on), and No Agenda.

I remember reading John C. Dvorak's articles in PC World about 35 years ago. That's how much of an OG tech journo he was, back when being a journo was still a somewhat noble profession. RIP.

Not entirely, and there was a hint of sarcasm in my remark (which probably didn't land on account of Dvorak being one of the good ones).

Back then, serious journos still did some excellent work. Of course there was always a clown show element thanks to the Murdochs of the world, and now we're in a place where opinion informs the news rather than the other way round. Funny how this happened around the same time the loudest anti-free speech voices started coming from the left rather than from the right.

The hosts of the show had a falling out with the original No Agenda Social server, and so there was a name change and a big move/migration. There's been some of animosity between the users on there and the show for a while, but it's nice to see that in the end, they can all commemorate about JCD's life.

Another fishtank live community member and Kiwi Farmer might have passed away @Metabolic Melody. I recognized her art on twitter and KF years ago, I never mentioned it. She occasionally mentioned Jersh and KF on her twitter. Her name was Jami and she was very active in the fishtank live community on xitter and a farmer. Rest in peace Jami.

The Montreal-born Jones won two Juno Awards — in 1986 and 2009 — several Félix awards and received six honourary doctorates.

In 1990, he won the Montreal Jazz Festival's Oscar Peterson award, named after his fellow jazz legend and his lifelong idol.

Jones was appointed an officer to the Order of Canada in 1993, a knight for the Ordre national de Québec in 1994 and a commander for the Order of Montreal in 1996.

I never really got into jazz, but maybe I'll check some of his stuff out.

I also remember his magazine columns back when the internet was young and new, and the most common way to get news was still print newspapers and magazines. I actually didn't know ZD started a tv channel, guess it wasn't carried on my cable provider at the time.

It didn't. Ziff-Davis existed since the 1920s. The TV channel started in 1998. It was freaking amazing.
