This looks epic. My only two concerns is how are they going to condense less than 30 years of history down to 2 hours and 38 minutes and Joaquin Phoenix seems a little to old to believably play a pre 1810 Napoleon.

Honestly Joaquin doesn't do too many bad movies, but considering Scott's track record over the past 3 decades the BEST case scenario for this is that it will just be boring and forgettable.

I didn't see too many niggers shoehorned in the trailer, so that is a plus.

If Matt Damon and Ben Affleck's haircuts from that duelist movie make a cameo I will go see it. Otherwise it's the high seas (if it gets high praise) or wait til it comes to Roku or Tubi in 6 months when I have forgotten about its existence.

Cautiously hopeful. I don't expect any kind of real historical accuracy but I generally enjoy Ridley Scotts movies.

The fuck is up with Josephine's (I'm assuming that's her) hair in that first meeting scene? Was short-cropped hair on women a thing in the French Revolution?
I noticed that too. I also hope she doesn't dog on him and make him a bitch, since most producers will throw historical accuracy out the window in the name of "the message"

The problem I see here is the writer.
He wrote some prison riot movie in 2001.
Then, he wrote one of the most boring blockbusters ever in 2008, The Day The Earth Stood Still remake featuring a borderline comatose performance of Keanu Reeves.
After that, he wrote the infamous movie where Kevin Spacey got replaced by Christopher Plummer in 2017.
That's it, 3 scripts in the last 22 years, 1 of them horrible.

The biggest flaw in Scott's newer movies is the writing, he still got it as a director.
I'm guessing everything will be good except the story and dialogue.

Ridley Scott hasn't been considered a good director since 1990.
Nah, 2005. The Director's Cut of Kingdom of Heaven was great. Though the Last Duel was pretty mediocre, so he may have finally gotten senile enough to start sucking at historical dramas, which were his biggest strength.

My issue is how dour and miserable Joaqin Phoenix looks through this entire trailer. One of Napoleon's biggest strengths as a leader, and especially as a military commander, was his ability to be convivial and inspire people around him to believe they were still furthering Republican standards fighting for a guy calling himself Emperor. Sure, he had a really domineering personality, but he wasn't aloof and grumpy about it.

To be fair we're only seen a limited trailer but it will be difficult for Juaquin to break out his comfort zone and capture Napoleon Bonaparte's character well. Rod Steiger came somewhat close to that in Waterloo.

Joaquin is a great actor and Napoleon is a fucking awesome historical subject but unfortunately Ridley Scott hires the worst writers and picks some dogshit scripts.

This writer for Napoleon also happens to be writing Gladiator 2, also being directed by Ridley Scott, and for some reason having Denzel Washington in it.
