Richard C. Kyanka v. Ashley K. Martin (2020) - Lowtax's second divorce

His ex has a Gofundme (originally for $30,000 to fund legal costs) which was just updated after Lowtax's death to a goal of $60,000 to fund the higher education of his three kids.

The part that's relevant to this thread:

Hopefully this isn't too MATI, but why should the internet pay any money towards these kids higher education? Get a scholarship, take a loan, and go to a cheap school. It isn't like Lowtax was going to pay for that shit anyways.

There is literal free - actually better than free, you get money for living expenses while enrolled - job training available to them as US Citizens.
No one sobbing about student debt repayment seems to have ever heard of Job Corps

Its for filthy vocational training where they will have to work instead of getting a gender studies degree and smoking pot for 4 years while running up six figures of debt.

edit: Sorry to answer the question, its a normal human impulse to feel sympathy towards someone, especially a young child, who has suffered a loss, and contributing to a college fund is a way to express that sympathy, and viewed as a way to not merely cover living expenses but to allow them an opportunity to improve their lives since they will not have two parents to help cover their higher education.

So you are not wrong, there should be no expectation of internet strangers to cover their bills. But that doesn't change that many internet strangers who feel conflicted about Lowtax's passing ("he was a piece of shit, but was a formative figure in this thing I enjoy(ed)") would view an education fund for his daughters as an acceptable outlet for their sympathies.
Even if its largely unncessary now since since universal Federal Financial aid exists and other programs like aforementioned Job Corps.

Grifters gonna grift. Very much doubt those kids will see a penny of it.

Because they feel like it? It's certainly a better thing to throw money at than any of the thousands of troons with "buy me recreational drugs" gofundmes.

I mean I'm not going to but I wish them the best.

I expect the money to be wasted. But when you have to tell a kid their father died by suicide out of spite, it is literally more difficult to be an ass about it. I won't bitch because i'm 10 dollars short. I really wish I could give them a hug and tell them it will be fine, but I don't know them, social norms, COVID, etc...

I mean I see your point but Job Corps is literally boot camp for the druggie kids after they turn 18. Though who's to say how these kids will end up by that time.

60%+ job placement which includes drop out and "damn, I'm pregnant", and actual needed job skills for the area you're in. Yes, you can also just get a part-time job and go to Community College or a trade school you select. There's also WGU that'd cost you about the same and also has career-focused degrees.

I hate the view that going to a traditional 4 year is the only way forward, and no other education options exist. Especially now that the only difference between a private/state school and a for-profit is that the non-profits have to be more careful about how they launder their money.

Counterpoint: has Job Corps ever produced decent workers? I've known several "chefs" who went through Job Corps and I could outcook their asses.

The few job corps alumni I spoke had the same story, they to said they don't like to talk about being from jobs corps because at least sections of enrollees got a "Enroll in job training or education" as part of a juvie plea deal and they don't want advertise they were from where those retards came from.

One was a janitor who overheard and added his two cents. I also knew a network guy in a datacenter who said he got his start there: got him certs but more importantly got him a job placement, an accountant where we were drunk (account didn't seem to have fond memories) and a roofer.
Janitor kept the place clean as far as I could tell, network guy was competent when I talked to him, no clue about accountant other than he sprayed his words when drunk, and roofer was carrying shingles so yes?

Suggestion of death? Are they hoping he might wake up and shout "Surprise Motherfuckers!"? Or has lowtaxs long term abuse of drugs and tranny hookers actually reanimated his corpse as a zombie?
Lol, yeah I found that wording funny as well. Maybe they're hoping all that box-wine pickled him and he's not quite dead yet? Tbh, if Lowtax came back as a zombie you'd never tell the difference on his streams, same low energy. But then he could probably get a role in one of those low-budget Chinese horror films he loves. :story:

It's apparently a term of art used in lots of places, although I never encountered it. It just refers to the substitution of the now-deceased party, often by their estate or other personal representative.
52.13. Substitution of Parties - Dismissal

(a) Upon Death.
(1) If a party dies and the claim is not thereby extinguished, the court may, upon motion, order substitution of the proper parties. Suggestion of death may be made by any party or person in interest by the service of a statement of the fact of the death as provided herein for the service of a motion. A motion for substitution may be made by any party or by the successor or representative of the deceased party. Such motion, together with notice of hearing shall be served upon the parties as provided in Rule 43.01, and upon persons not parties in the manner provided for the service of a summons. Unless a motion for substitution is served within 90 days after a suggestion of death is filed, the action shall be dismissed as to the deceased party without prejudice.
(2) In the event of the death of one or more of the plaintiffs or one or more of the defendants in an action in which the right sought to be enforced survives only to the surviving plaintiffs or only against the surviving defendants, the death shall be suggested on the record and the action shall proceed in favor of or against the surviving parties.
