Retro games and emulation - Discuss retro shit in case you're stuck in the past or a hipster

Some good GBA games that people probably already know...

Ninja 5-0 (it's Shinobi x Rolling Thunder x Bionic Commando) Good luck finding a cart under $400 though... I wish I'd bought it years ago.

Astro Boy: Omega Factor, it's by Treasure and it plays sorta like Viewtiful Joe but on the GBA. (takes two playthroughs to get the real ending too I believe)
That's like half the decent games on GBA right there. GBA isn't retro but Ninja 5-0 is a favorite.

If at all possible, you simply MUST get a CRT monitor for retro gaming! In my opinion it beats out any CRT TV in picture quality, this is running at a 640x480 native resolution with integer scaling scan lines in retroarch on a Trinitron monitor. You can use a displayport to VGA adapter to hook up your GPU, I recommend the Startech branded one, HDMI adapters often cause issues and should be avoided entirely.

how much would a good one cost?

Has anyone here tried Arkadyzja? I think it's suppose to be similar to Fightcade and is for match making frontend for multiplayer games for PS1, Dreamcast and certain arcade machines

One that's been serviced (replaced capacitors, adjusted screen geometry and convergence, and other repairs) can go for hundreds of dollars. It's also possible to find them for free or dirt cheap, much like CRT TVs, though these ones were likely just pulled out of a boomers attic and are very likely to have issues. Prices can vary wildly depending on who's selling the monitor.

Here's another picture of the monitor in question.

I couldn’t bring myself to care about a Bloodbornestation emulator, why would I care about an Astrobotstation emulator?

yes more emulators are always welcome, it’s just… there’s not really much of a point to this one
the only real benefit will be that games that have PS5 versions on physical disc will be preserved, or if the encryption is broken completely, digital versions too, even though at this point, you might as well just play the PC version over an emulator that in the case of the PS5 will no doubt have similar requirements to medium-low settings on said games, and it's not even going to be a PS3/Xbox 360 situation where there are both games worth emulating or content that would actually be lost to time had ROM sites and/or preservation efforts not stepping in. Like are we really going to loose sleep if Astro Bot stopped existing tomorrow when there's better platformers you can play, even on the PS5 itself?

I tried my NEC monitor with an OSSC a few years ago. Didn't like how spread apart the lines are.

I'll stick to my 15 inch security monitor CRT but honestly any consumer CRT TV in good condition is great.
