Because of this I actively will try out the AI assisted shit. Its how I found out that Legacy of Darkness on the n64 kicks ass and that Segagaga is actually shit and not at all fun to play. Seethe trannies
Legacy of Darkness was one of my surprise discoveries on the n64. People ignore the n64 castlevanias over the the PS1 SoTN and the first Castlevania doesn't the the best first impression when you play the first stages and that nitroglycerin part is objectively not fun. LoD is an improvement and I would love a remake/remaster to improve on it and maybe get that planned fourth Frankenstein character in as well.

On an unrelated note, is anyone here a fan of the Arcade Archives and Console Archives series by Hamster? I was looking through the lineup, and there's a lot of interesting stuff in there.
Thanks to a pricing error on the UK PlayStation store years ago I got the Contra one for free. They do nice work, but the pricing is ridiculous, especially when the collections Konami is putting out these days have more content per game at a lower per-game price.

The one big positive to them is that they have brought out some real obscurities and hidden gems. Hamster seems to have a great ability to find the people they need to find and negotiate well to license things from dead Japanese companies, which is a nightmare from everything I have heard.

I suppose the pricing is a bit better than it could be, considering the line started on the PS2 in Japan, and it was about $30 for each release, one title per disc, and some of them came bundled with a Super Play of the game, usually a 1CC for the SHMUP titles, which were the majority of the releases, on a DVD as a bonus.

If you liked the N64 Castlevanias, play the PS2 games. They are IGA's take on 3-d Castlevania and are pretty fun. Lament of Innocence is better than its reputation suggests, and Curse of Darkness improves on it a lot.

I found a rather large spreadsheet made by this X user (troon faggot, obviously) that mentions the censorship on titles that have it.
Gotta love when "preservation" products revise, censor, alter or mutilate what they are supposed to be preserving!

Kinda reminds me of when MGM put out VHS tapes of classic Tom and Jerry cartoons in the 80s that were edited versions of the shorts instead of the real uncut versions that people actually wanted and would have bought due to the broadcast versions being first edited and later banned from broadcast.

Where does it say anything about censorship? All it says about Arkanoid is that there are “edits” as in the rom isn’t 1:1 the exact same as what’s in MAME, which could mean anything from “a few bytes in a ROM header are different” to “bright flashing effects were toned down to be less seizure-inducing”.

If you hover over the edits section for each game there should be a short description of the change(s) made to the ACA release.

There isn’t, or there’s something wrong with my device. Are you sure you’re looking at the right game?
You’re supposed to hover over the “yes” underneath the edits section for each game to see the changes noticed. It doesn’t seem to work on mobile from what I’ve tried. For Arkanoid for example, it says that a few rounds were altered to avoid resemblances to Breakout (pretty dumb tbh, considering that it was the main inspiration after all).

Weird, I event tried downloading it and still couldn’t see anything. Well good to know, thanks.

That’s disappointing, especially considering Atari probably doesn’t care, but it’s not really “censorship”. I thought it would be something like a lewd background getting swapped out or text being deemed too offensive.

Atari and Bally Midway sued a lot of clone arcade game makers in the 80s for copying level layouts in their clones, so altering a level in Arkanoid to make it distinct from any in Breakout was probably a smart move with the current entity wearing Atari's skin like a suit is trying to re-proliferate the classic Atari library.

I have what might be one of the most used Game Boy Pockets that exist. I got it last year to make custom Game Boy's for my kids, but never got around to it.

It came with a copy of Tetris, which is what I think may have been the only game that was ever played on it judging by the wear on the D pad and paint. If so, then someone has to be really good at Tetris by now. I think that they only stopped playing it because the silicone membrane under the D pad had finally collapsed. The up arrow on the D pad is the only one visible as the others had been eroded away.

I replaced the membrane and did the backlight/bivert mod which is apparently quite difficult due to the displays being so fragile, but I happened to do it on the first try. There is a bit of oil between the LCD and rear polarized film, and a hair behind the lens, but I've got to dissassemble it again for cleaning anyway.

I have a clear shell for it, but the level of wear on this is just too interesting to change.

Unfortunately that kind of wear is not uncommon for silver ones. Paint just isn't a good solution for this kind of system.

I hooked my PS3 back up last night and man, I hate that version of the store. Getting the de-listed stuff I have in my library reinstalled is such a pain in the ass.

Also, I think the USB ports are fucked because using a wired controller results in some inputs not working and phantom inputs, which blows because I have the Logitech controllers that use a USB dongle as well as a HORI Pad Mini that I like using, and they’re just impossible to use now.

I may try doing a wipe and fresh OS install, but then I’d have to fight the store again to install things, and I’d rather not.
Just following up in case anyone gives a shit, I did a safe mode reboot, everything is working properly, so no reset needed, thank god.

Okay, so I booted up this N64 emulator I've been using for some time without issues and, after the latest update, I noticed... this in the UI.

Now, I know the emulation community is pozzed to heck and back, but this just does it.
Please recommend me some other N64 emulator without this kind of crap.

I don't know why I bothered buying Rare Replay when it went on sale. Their old stuff is godawful, their N64 stuff is godawful, and Viva Piñata seems boring so far.

Jet Force Gemini's "modern" control scheme is a total abortion, but looking at the "original" scheme, I guess it could be a lot worse.
