"Money doesn't buy happiness, but happiness doesn't buy anything."
I don't know who this originates from, but I remember it really resonating with me when I first heard it.
"Do it or don't do it--you will regret both." -Soren Kierkegaard
This quote always pops into my mind when I find myself at a crossroads in life. I don't interpret it in a nihilistic 'you're fucked no matter what you do' sense, but rather that there will always be positive and negative consequences to my decisions--and those consequences, no matter the impact on my life, will inevitably bring about pangs of the 'how would have things been different if i did x, y, or z instead' regret. In other words, it makes me ask, "Within reason, what can I do to minimize the frustrations/ennui/etc. that come with making difficult, life-altering decisions?"
And something that keeps me sane in the Tumblr age:
"It's now very common to hear people say, 'I'm rather offended by that.' As if that gives them certain rights. It's actually nothing more...than a whine. 'I find that offensive.' It has no meaning; it has no purpose; it has no reason to be respected as a phrase. 'I am offended by that.' Well, so fucking what." -Stephen Fry
