"Let whoever can win glory before death. When a warrior is gone, that will be his best and only bulwark."
- Beowulf, 1387-9

"I don't like work-- no man does-- but I like what is in the work-- the chance to find yourself. Your own reality-- for yourself not for others-- what no other man can ever know. They can only see the mere show, and never can tell what it really means."
- Joseph Conrad, Heart of Darkness

"I like living in a world as crazy as this."
--Northernlion

"But they wouldn't be dreams if they came true, now would they?"
--YuriofWind

This is another one I didn't post before.

"The world is like a ride in an amusement park. And when you choose to go on it you think it's real because that's how powerful our minds are. And the ride goes up and down and round and round. It has thrills and chills and it's very brightly coloured and it's very loud and it's fun, for a while. Some people have been on the ride for a long time and they begin to question: "Is this real, or is this just a ride?" And other people have remembered, and they come back to us, they say, 'Hey, don't worry, don't be afraid, ever, because this is just a ride.'"
- Bill Hicks

"I may not like what you have to say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."

Not really a quote from Voltaire, but a general summation of his philosophy.

"I am prepared for the worst, but hope for the best."
~Benjamin Disraeli

Though after a point I modify this quote to be more along this like:

"Think of the worst, then think that it'll get even worse."

That variant I use the most often when describing cows or idiots, since experience has shown me that if you think they're at a nadir now, they can somehow get more pathetic.

Pretty good quote for a cartoon

"Until a man is twenty-five, he still thinks, every so often, that under the right circumstances he could be the baddest motherfucker in the world. If I moved to a martial-arts monastery in China and studied real hard for ten years. If my family was wiped out by Colombian drug dealers and I swore myself to revenge. If I got a fatal disease, had one year to live, and devoted it to wiping out street crime. If I just dropped out and devoted my life to being bad.

Hiro used to feel this way, too, but then he ran into Raven. In a way, this was liberating. He no longer has to worry about being the baddest motherfucker in the world. The position is taken."-Neal Stephenson, Snow Crash

"We don't grow up. We just learn to act in public."

I live by this everyday. We all have some kind of inner child that keeps us happy. But we have to be mature with other people to function in the world. It's a delicate balance.

Peace is a lie.
There is only passion.
Through passion I gain strength.
Through strength I gain power.
Through power I gain victory.
Through victory my chains are broken.
The Force shall set me free.
