That variant I use the most often when describing cows or idiots, since experience has shown me that if you think they're at a nadir now, they can somehow get more pathetic.

I live by this everyday. We all have some kind of inner child that keeps us happy. But we have to be mature with other people to function in the world. It's a delicate balance.
