>have a badass female lesbian pirate captain
>treated like a male by her crew and respected highly
>let's have a tranny play her

It's like they actually are so misogynistic they don't see how this is a kick in the teeth to even the concept of the character they came up with (that is not in the fucking book). Strong high-agency woman literally required to be male.

He really is just a terrible actor. I can't quite put my finger on why, but his line delivery in the first clip of @AssignedEva's post is just so, so bad, it takes me out of the scene instantly. Not even the bellowing, the speaking. That really shouldn't be so hard. He just can't do it, can't make it sound and look even a little real. He shouldn't be near a stage, let alone an expensive tv show. I love that everyone can see it now, even the wokest of woke Redditors don't appreciate Olly ruining scenes.

Freefolk has a dedicated thread celebrating Pirate Ollie's demise

Amusingly there's people observing that acting is not Ollie's "day job" and also explaining how he skinwalked Contrapoints

Lots of people complained about Ollie's bellowing. He does indeed sound a bit like a rugby team captain shouting on the pitch, although in fairness the character is a pirate queen in a battle

It's actually reminiscent of when Ollie would do his little speeches at protests.
The death scene:

It's been observed by multiple users that the show appears to have done a 180 on Ollie's character - despite being introduced with much fanfare, along the lines of a main character, in the season finale, he's suddenly killed off in the first episode of this new season. Neither of the characters he's based on (Sharako Lohar/Racallio Ryndoon) die in the battle of the gullet or are killed by Alyn of Hull.

Possibly this is the show writers "subverting expectations" but the funnier explanation is Ollie was intended to have a much bigger storyline but was killed off after they saw the audience reaction to Choob's acting.

Well somebody liked it I guess.

Última edición:
When they introduced him last season I assumed they'd be departing from the books and keeping the character around. It just felt like they were setting up for a longer arc where he'd survive the battle. Olly spent months training and acted like he was the star at the premiere. The character ended up being nothing but a plot device, one minute he's dumped in mud showing veneers and then suddenly it's the battle and he's dead.
The character he played is a mishmash of two separate characters from the book and neither die in the battle and do have their minor roels later.

Sharako Lohar the book version survives the battle, manages to sack Driftmark and captures Viserys, youngest son of Rhaenyra and Daemon in battle and goes back to his city where after some time he gets assasinated which triggers massive civil war in the Triarchy, while Viserys ends up sold to another nobleman in Essos.

Racallio Ryndoon, who Troon Lohar is actually more based on is a mentally ill hedonistic degenerate ala Heliogabalus originally from the Triarchy who at some point manages to conquer the Stepstones after the Dance and treats with Alyn of Hull (the niggerified guy who killed the troon in the show).

The weirdest thing about all of this imo how they made mtf play a ftm character, when both book Lohar and Ryndoon are natal men, I can only understand in that Oliver really wanted to play a tranny but didn't want to play a biological male tranny lol

The death face is just truly awful acting, like something Laurel and Hardy would do in a silent film

Um, excuse me CHUD, you don't know acting if it hit you in the face.

"When she's lifted out of the water, all the blood has washed from her face," says Thorn. "In that final moment, she looks innocent, the soft light bouncing off the water. And she looks afraid. [Salim] even said to me on the set, 'The audience is going to hate me.' And I said 'Yeah, I know.'"
Don't you see the innocence and the softness in his final scene? The audience now loathes the other actor who killed the number one character in the Game of Thrones universe.

You'd think someone as wealthy as him could pay for an acting couch, or just fucking research.
He's talked about having an acting coach - in fact, I think he talked about the producers giving him an acting coach on set in his last appearance. It's obvious that they saw that his performance and tried everything to improve it, but you can't polish a turd. Olly just isn't an actor - there's only so much acting coaches and classes can do if you don't have that natural talent and knack for it.

Olly filmed this last year and doesn't appear to have worked since, I think the unreleased scifi movie was shot before HOTD.
I'm sure Toob or someone else attached to the movie said filming wrapped a couple years ago, but I couldn't find a quote anywhere in the last few pages or in MovieBob's review.

It would line up if he shot the movie in 2024 since that was when all his other previous roles were, but whether it was 2 gigs in the last 2 years or 1 it isn't likely to have his agent in high spirits.

Even in the death scene where no words are spoken at all his acting is so fucking bad it made me viscerally cringe.
The expression on his face when his character dies is so fucking hammy and bad.
I hope he gets plenty more Hollywood roles so I have more to laugh at and his ego inflates even more. It'll make the crash and burn that much more explosive.

Spoilers?

Thankfully he dies in the first episode of season 3 and comments on Reddit are just expressing their relief.

After all that faffing around on the red carpet and he had what, ten mins total screen time?

I have to express my approval.

It is good that they show a realistic interpretation of what will happen if a woman tries to fight a man.

Also bonus point for creating a realistic commentary and explanationen on the outcome for western immigration.

I like how, in the gold outfit ones for the TADC premiere, he does the same vacant stare Gooseworx does. Like, they seem to think that this wide-eye, parted lip fish face is… sexy? Like they’re trying to give a womanly “fuck me” face seen from pornography and fucking it up. When Oliver and Mick (“Morgana”, barf) actually smile, they approach normal human faces with normal human expressions. But this vague wanna-be super model “woman” face? Grotesque.

The choobing simply never ends. The cast is asked who they think is the most attractive of their fellow castmates. Everyone says someone other than themselves, one of them does but clearly jokingly. Choob shamelessly immediately says himself (7 minute mark) and then goes on a spiel about his makeup in the Battle of the Gullet scene. That's our boy!

He literally cited Michael Chekhov in describing how he "crafted" his character.

The problem for Ollie is that he takes onboard everything an acting coach says. Do some animal work to think about how you move in the space, create a backstory for your character and use it to inform your emotional responses in the scene, uncover some conflicting objectives to add complexity and depth to your performance. I'm sure Ollie has stacks of notebooks covering Sharako Lohar's deep seated childhood trauma.

The issue with Olly is he realised when he was young he was somewhat mediocre, but could get good(ish) grades from working really hard and studying intensively. So from his perspective, he's working really hard - in every scene he's carefully thought about how to perform it, he's read some really clever theorists and is copying them. So therefore he must be doing a good job. Anyone who doesn't like his performance merely fails to understand the really clever thing he's done.

Christian Bale, Judy Dench, Jodie Comer, Florence Pugh, Tom Hardy... none of these people went to drama school. They had a talent and learned on the job. They've got instincts, they can convey feelings with subtlety, they innately "get" how to perform in a scene. That's not to say they've not encountered these approaches or consulted with acting coaches, but that's not where they're starting from. Ollie struggles to act normally in his day-to-day life, so he certainly cannot convincingly feign a completely different persona. But he can't understand that. He's working hard and studying and practicing, so therefore he must be a good actor. Look, he's had a red carpet premiere, and he was in multiple international TV shows! That must mean he's good at acting, and anyone saying otherwise is merely a pleb with no taste.

Further exposure to acting coaches is only going to make him worse, if anything. He's just not the sort of person who's suited to acting.

He really is just a terrible actor. I can't quite put my finger on why
The cope I hear most often from Choob fans is that the reason he seems so over the top is because he has more experience as a stage actor. As if all his fellow British upper class cunt actors don’t also come from a background in the theater.

https://youtube.com/watch?v=959eivWpBKYThe choobing simply never ends. The cast is asked who they think is the most attractive of their fellow castmates. I used to listen to his Kill James Bond podcast and at one point he talked about how how tall and handsome he used to be and how he could have played James Bond if he hadn’t trooned out. It wasn’t a bit or Choob taking the piss. He was 100% serious

I don't watch this show, but looking at the clips, it does seem that Choob had a quite demanding role physically but it doesn't really let him flex his acting muscles so to speak since it doesn't seem like a character with any depth so its a bit absurd seeing him talk about bringing Sharako to life and imbue him with such pathos or whatever.

Of course even within his limited screentime you can still clearly see he's just not at the races acting wise.

And really, this is like the best role for him when you think about it, ridiculous, cartoony, inherently camp without much demand to display much interiority since its bulldozed by being extremely brash and aggrandizing in a demented sort of way. If he can't really pull that off I don't think he'll have much hope with something subtler.
