Spoilers?

Thankfully he dies in the first episode of season 3 and comments on Reddit are just expressing their relief.

After all that faffing around on the red carpet and he had what, ten mins total screen time?

Does anyone here watch the show and can confirm how long Toob is actually on screen in total? Because it seems weird he's getting puff pieces written about him for playing what I assumed was a Yamcha-tier character (i.e. pops up now and then, has a few lines, but no one really cares; mostly just stands around and makes faces).

Freefolk has a dedicated thread celebrating Pirate Ollie's demise

Amusingly there's people observing that acting is not Ollie's "day job" and also explaining how he skinwalked Contrapoints

Lots of people complained about Ollie's bellowing. He does indeed sound a bit like a rugby team captain shouting on the pitch, although in fairness the character is a pirate queen in a battle

It's actually reminiscent of when Ollie would do his little speeches at protests.
The death scene:

It's been observed by multiple users that the show appears to have done a 180 on Ollie's character - despite being introduced with much fanfare, along the lines of a main character, in the season finale, he's suddenly killed off in the first episode of this new season. Neither of the characters he's based on (Sharako Lohar/Racallio Ryndoon) die in the battle of the gullet or are killed by Alyn of Hull.

Possibly this is the show writers "subverting expectations" but the funnier explanation is Ollie was intended to have a much bigger storyline but was killed off after they saw the audience reaction to Choob's acting.

Remember: this is Reddit so if he had been even semi-competent as an actor they would have all been “yaaas queening” the troon actor.

The show runners seem to pay a lot of attention to social media reaction (last season they added a ton of rhanerya x alicent scenes that weren’t in the source material and tbh didn’t really make sense because I guess that’s a popular ship on TikTok?? If you’re doubting me one of the showrunners literally said “we know everyone wanted to see them together”) so very believable to me that they wrote “Lohar” off when no one liked him.

The death face is just truly awful acting, like something Laurel and Hardy would do in a silent film

His acting remids me of my acting when I was 10 for a primary school drama performance. You'd think someone as wealthy as him could pay for an acting couch, or just fucking research. I dunno I just think being stabbed in the neck should be pretty easy to act convincingly for. Videos for it tend to go one of two ways, sheer animal panic, visceral rapid movements and reactions, wild eyed and applying pressure to the wound before falling down dead, or ignoring it and continuing to do what you were doing for a few seconds and then falling down dead. Just fucking pick one, instead he does nothing and just doesn't react and looks into the distance.

I had no idea the new season was out yesterday but before the latest episode, he had maybe 5 minutes of screen time in the last season. He wasn’t even recurring, just introduced.

I was forced to watch this and I am glad he got killed off. I have no fucking clue who he talked to in order to get that gig, but the director is probably ripping that person apart knowing the ratings this sort of stuff gets you now. Also one thing I noticed which was particularly bad about him was any side on view he had in any scene (like shooting at the dragon, I forgot the name) he looked like some extremely burly scotting person. One can say maybe a "butch" but that is one very fucking ugly dyke if you have a jaw like that.

I would say this is more of an issue of the directors not chastising him for being shit and giving the proper guidance needed to actually do this scene better. Most choreographers and directors (especially) can be total fucking hacks who have no clue what they are doing which leads to this in such a high end production. Yes, he should've researched the role better and done more acting classes, but when he is already in this stage of production you cannot exactly force that out of an individual. Unless there is some unspoken rule with this show and how people should not be acting too "realistic" when they die so there is always a dramatic/"honourable" way of going out. Tugging the heart strings so to say.

It cannot be this fucking hard to act being stabbed in the neck when VA's for games like Squad or Ready or Not fucking choke on their own blood in such a manner it is incredibly uncomfortable/unnerving, as it should be.

LoL the nigger killed the troon. Would be fitting if both died, but alas, the audience kinda won?

I forgot HOTD S3 was broadcasting.

When they introduced him last season I assumed they'd be departing from the books and keeping the character around. It just felt like they were setting up for a longer arc where he'd survive the battle. Olly spent months training and acted like he was the star at the premiere. The character ended up being nothing but a plot device, one minute he's dumped in mud showing veneers and then suddenly it's the battle and he's dead.

Olly filmed this last year and doesn't appear to have worked since, I think the unreleased scifi movie was shot before HOTD. Working actors go for a while between projects but he does not want to be viewed as a working actor, his whole personality is that he's a star. I'd love to know how he acts on set, he's probably hard to work with.

Ultimately he's just a bad actor. Olly used all of his connections, got on a damn HBO show, and somehow gave his worst performance. They can probably find a trans actor that can deliver dialogue without sounding like they're on Garth Marenghi's Darkplace.
