To be fair they usually don't melt down at that. In America this is brought up more often with the Irish and Italians than with Slavs, but they will often point to examples of "white" Christian peoples that were previously demonized and later accepted as evidence for why anyone who doesn't support their position of unrestrained&unlimited mass immigration (legal or illegal) is a totally xenophobic racist islamaphobic bigot who just hates anyone who happens to be different from them.

Interestingly, they tend to forget that it was actually predominantly African American workers who originally had problems with the mass influx of impoverished Irishmen, since they were the most likely to be displaced from their jobs. They could look at this and start to at least consider that the people they demonize so much might actually have a point, but from what I've seen they either respond with LA LA LA CANT HEAR YOU or resort to borderline communist rhetoric about how all of this was a secret plot by the bourgeois to turn the masses against each other.
