👓 TGWTG Nostalgia Chick / Lindsay Ellis / TheDudette - aka Hotdogs in face girl

Del Toro's specialty is making monster movies. Deep or even remotely accurate social commentary doesn't seem to really be his thing- I feel like he's on the Tim Burton spectrum. Great with visuals and making a movie with a good "feel"...but it falls apart as soon as you shake it hard enough.

its rather surreal to watch lindsay's crap now bc the fact of the matter is, she hasn't gotten dumber. she was always this fucking dumb, it's just that i have become increasingly aware of in fact how dumb she is. it's kind of like how everything seems to get shorter to us, as we grow up and get taller, but the opposite.

You could say that about most of Channel Awesome, really. It is more notable with Lindsey though because she's trying to be smart, but the reality is she just isn't as smart as she thinks she is and that makes her annoying to watch.

It's funny that with all her much-vaunted education she unconsciously exposes vast chasms of ignorance about the world and can't be bothered to research anything.
For instance, watch her Showgirls review, and it becomes clear that she knew nothing about the production and had never read any of the things that Joe Eszterhas has said about it.
The most egregious one was the X-Men:First Class vlog, where she tries to impress of her knowledge of the X-Men by stating that she read the Grant Morrison run. She also states that there were no strippers in the 1960s (and quickly hedges it with a "no true Scotsman" qualifier, which means she can just keep moving the goalposts when someone questions her on it. I guess she meant there were no mutant strippers with wings in the 1960s.) Her chubby friend is much smarter and more entertaining, she deserves the star spot.

No strippers? Really? Candy Barr alone was made famous because of her association with Jack Ruby. Strippers have fucking existed for a long fucking time. How can anyone be this retarded? Mata Hari alone was basically a stripper, however you wanna dress it up, she got naked in her dance routine. That's like saying there were no prostitutes or gay people back in the day. That's all kinds of levels of retardedness.

The problem with getting a degree is that people think you're down and oh so smart and educated. It's really a life long process. A true intellectual never stops learning and considering other viewpoints. Pseudointellectuals just sit on their lorels and act smug.

I think I remember the first red flag being Lindsay & Doug's Chipmunk video from 6 years ago, where both apparently seem to believe in feminism's bottom of the barrel "wage gap" BS. In complete fairness, the fact that she was willing to do a sketch like this shows that she might have been a bit more easy going back then, since I remember during her first stream with Contrapoints she said Doug's jokes can get too "sexist" for her tastes. The terrible song in general was also a red flag for Doug, since his newer reviews are pretty much unwatchable due to including a plethora of unfunny and pointless sketches.

Both should have just stuck to what they're good at. In Lindsay's case, that means making film theory based video essays about Disney movies and other nostalgic icons (I did like her stuff on Hercules and Phantom of the Opera for example).
Problem is, now that she's ditched the TGWG crowd for the SJ crowd, she likely feels the need to shift more towards their brand to fit in. Rather than quit film criticism and become a clone of her new BFF Contra fulltime, she tries to lazily shoehorn SJ commentary into her film criticism, resulting in pathetic reaches like what we saw in her latest video.

Lol. Someone should consult the ghost of Josephine Baker and let her know she never had a career.

Contra is way more "fun" to watch than Lindsey. Contra at least tries to go for funny, Lindsey you can tell has to force jokes.

https://youtube.com/watch?v=YesMWAxqJ60This might be a new low. Lindsay tries to draw a connection between classic monster movies and Birth of a Nation by claiming that, even though she admits the filmmakers probably never intended anything like this, there's apparently undeniable racial coding underlying them with the monsters being code for minorities and the heroes being code for KKK members. I honestly didn't think I'd ever see Lindsay get this ridiculous.

So I was right, she is out of ideas.

All she has left to fall back on is connecting patterns that are coincidence with autism power.

After she's done with Disney stuff maybe she can look at Don Bluth. I can't wait to hear about how the original Land Before Time is actually a reflection of the Black Lives Matter Movement. Or how Pebble and the Penguin is satire on Trumps presidency.

That is the most re.tarded thing i've ever heard. Girls love bad boys and dangerous men with soft hearts (in fantasies at least), to say that it's actually a subliminally racist propaganda when it's actually just an easy way to get butt's in the seats is downs syndrome level autistic

Right.

Because monsters and ugly supernatural beings falling in love with human (or human-like) women and vice versa totally isnt something that has been part of every goddamn mythology on the planet since literal goddamn antiquity *COUGH*ancientgreeks-norse-egyptians-africans-aztecs-chinese-pajeets-ffffffuckingGILGAMESH-christianity-judaism*COUGH and there is absolutely no literary tradition of pairing hideous and monstrous men with beautiful women as some "true beauty is on the inside" parable or deconstruction thereof.

naw its all because everyone who writes any story ever secretly hates niggers.

And obviously there is nothing weird about some pampered white woman vlogger looking at monsters and apes and deciding "ya know this is obviously about black people"

That and, as The Shadow and Judge Holden already mentioned, the theme of virtuous heroes saving innocent women from "monsters" or women falling in love with them has been around forever (i.e. Perseus saving Andromeda from the Kraken, Enkidu and the temple Harlot from Gilgamesh, the literal fiirst story ever written). That's because (virgin) women were often used as symbols of innocence, not because they secretly represented "white purity" or some shit like that. Lindsay could have just made yet another video about why the damsel in distress trope is totally sexist, but I guess that's old news even in feminist circles by now.
