'No Stupid Questions' (NSQ) Internet & Technology Edition

I'm thinking about switching from Brave to some version of Firefox, because the retards at Google keep making Chromium worse. Any recommendations for which fork to use? I've heard good things about Librewolf and Floorp. Thought I'm a bit worried about Floorp since it's apparently just one guy doing 90% of the work.
I use LibreWolf or Mullvad browser on the desktop, and Mull (unrelated to Mullvad) on Android.

Anyone remember when you used to read about DDOS attacks that "literally melted down the networking hardware"? Was there ever any tiny grain of truth behind those stories or was it entirely journo nonsense? Were there professional-grade routers that would fail if put under 100% load too long or something?

Why is 1680x1050p a resolution? I found this Quora post on it:
But I'm not satisfied. Anyone know why the Dell monitor I just got at a thrift store made in 2010 with a Displayport of all things would have a 1050p resolution instead of 1080p?
DisplayPort has been around since 2006, and 1680 x 1050 (aka WSXGA+) is just a lower resolution of the now common 1920 × 1200 (WUXGA) standard. If you want to know how it came to be, read up on the thrilling development of display resolution standards.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/16:10_aspect_ratio 16:10 is actually pretty useful for productivity software
Is that like a office suite/ industrial software like CAD?

Edit: ah, video editing, because its 16:10, not 16:9, bigger screen. Also the things i mentioned. Thats why it looks bigger than my 23 inch 16:9 despite being 22 inch.

Informative, thank you!

So, is UltraAV just Kaspersky with a different name? I can't find anything about it.
seems like it.

Any recommendations for technology/gaming-related news websites that aren't just filled with woke pieces? I'm thinking things along the lines of TorrentFreak (using this for piracy-related news), and I've tried some other sites in the past (Polygon, Kontaku, etc) but I've seen them get more progressively woke as time went on. I'm relying on Tomsguide at the moment but I wouldn't mind some other alternatives to try out.

Slashdot seems the same as its always been. Lags a few days behind, because it only aggregates and summarizes stories from other sites.

Bleeping Computer has always seemed pretty apolitical. Mostly cyber security related stuff.

For videogames news, I unironically just use Youtube because every gaming website is totally retarded.

For games and tech there's www.bluesnews.com where everything is gathered in one place and you can pick and choose what you want to read.
It looks and reads like this:
bluesnews2.jpg bluesnews1.jpg

Updates two times per day, it has an extensive archive going back to 1996 which has been used to correct entries on Wikipedia and Mobygames.

edit: no political commentary at all. After January 6 he posted something like "what could I even say about that, this is videogame site" and sat that one out. No opinion posted.

Microsoft Copilot installed itself on my computer in a recent update. I was able to uninstall it like any regular program, but I'm still paranoid that this shit is on my computer in some way. Besides paying for something like Revo Uninstaller to remove already-uninstalled apps, how do I make sure that this thing is gone? Or should I not worry?

the legit solution is to ditch windows 11. otherwise the unistalled stuff might be reinstalled automatically in the next update like on windows 10.

i never heard of copilot being installed on windows 10, but that might just be me. i use shutup10 to keep the telemetry and bloat low enough.
They pushed out an update just yesterday that made co-pilot a stand alone app in Windows 10. It went on the preview channel earlier this summer.
