Nintendo have learned all too well from Android's example.
Android is now almost as locked-down as iOS. There are precious few phones for which you can still download your own Android flavor, tweak it as desired, build it from sources and flash it onto modern, capable hardware while still being able to support the new "attestation" bullshit that app makers can use to force you to run only "official images." Not to mention even on devices that still permit bootloader unlocking, besides immediately breaking attestation, doing so also locks you out of vendor-specific features and functionality (just go unlock a Samsung phone to get root and see how much of One UI refuses to work after you gain root).
And finally, Google themselves are locking down the "sideloading" backdoor. They were going to nuke it entirely, and it took months of screaming at them from enthusiasts to back down from total lockdown to a new convoluted process just to order your own fucking hardware to allow you to install your own fucking software from your own fucking sources. It's disgusting. You literally have to wait 24 hours after "re-enabling sideloading" to be allowed to actually do it:
Android's new sideloading rules are here, and they come with a 24-hour lock!
Seems to me Nintendo is being just as consumer-unfriendly and lockdown-happy as Google to me.
