After action report for 250:

Diego Lopes vs. Steve Garcia was a gimmie. Garcia didn't have the power or the tactics to crack Lopes.

Bo Nickal and Kyle Daukus, same same. They needed at least one American to get a guaranteed W.

Ruffy v. Chandler, they're milking Muscle Milk Mike for as much as they can get out of him before they consign him to commentary. Ruffy is still a fucking gatekeeper in my eyes until he beats someone who matters. Run it back against BSD, something.

Hokit vs. Lewis. Hokit is a nutcase and I love it. The thing that separates guys like Hokit, Strickland, and Uncle Chael vs. Colby Covington is that the former believe at least half of what they are saying and will say it with their whole chest, where Colby was clearly working a gimmick to keep his job. Hokit is following the fine tradition of a Hispanic-American beating up black people to get what he wants (look at his last three plus him going 10-8 against Michael Obama in the post-fight).

Sean O'Malley vs. Aiemann Zahabi was another goddamn lay-up, but I liked it. O'Malley is a goofy dude, but he snipes, and now I'm curious if he can actually hang with healthy, leveled up Petr Yan.

Poatan vs. Gane...I don't want to talk about it. A cheating French mutt holding two belts at the White House. Very disrespectful. Let's move on.

Topuria made a crucial mistake: He took Justin Gaethje lightly. Even Khabib was wary of letting Justin hit him too much. Charles got Justin on the mat. Max kept Justin at a safe range until it was time to finish. And Dustin just didn't give a fuck, he would bite the mouthpiece and let God decide the winner. Justin was healthy, he followed the gameplan, and his experience showed through. To his credit, Ilia was ready to go out in that 5th round and leave that cage on his shield, busted face, broken rib, he might be a cringe midget, but he was ready to bleed and die for just a chance keep that title. Fortunately for him, his corner and his brother were willing to protect him from his own pride and threw in the towel. Topuria committed a few unforced errors in that fight, going for subs once he tenderized Justin's body and fighting off of his back foot being the big two. I think he didn't respect Justin's hands until he felt them at which point it was too late.

At this point, if the UFC wants Justin beat and gone, their best chance is Arman. If they are counting coins like the (((Brazilians))) they are, they're going to cross their fingers for Conor to beat Max, and then set up "The man who beat the man who beat the man" but that leaves too much to chance. If Conor wins, they're going to fast-track him a title shot. If Max wins, there's a logjam between him and Charles.

Overall, 8-9/10 card. Lots of finishes.

Thread tourist here:

Anyone got a 4k vod of last night? I missed it live because I have no streamer services. There's too many bangers (not even talking about the fights) I want to see.

Cheers.

Funny how I underestimated Ilia before his fight with Volk in 2024. Now I overestimated Ilia in his fight with Justin.

Even so, I still thought Ilia would give Volk a hard fight. This time I expected Ilia to run Justin over.

Looks like "Gameplan Gaethje" is here to stay.

As a side note, Ruffy's boxing remains sexy as always. Chandler's record not so much.

Y'know what, I really want Diego to just move up already. I want to see him against a top guy, whether it's Charles, Arman, Ilia, Max... He pretty much ran the entire featherweight gauntlet and beat everyone not named Volkanovski. Yair is so inactive I'm not even interested in that matchup anymore. I think Diego would have a solid chance of becoming champ at lightweight

Ilia was far too comfortable standing in front of Justin and eating jabs in that first round. I'm pretty sure one of his eyes got fucked up in the first round, and by the time Ilia respected Justin's striking, he was already compromised. I think Ilia got too invested into his own boast about putting Justin out early, and gassed himself out by the end of round 2.

I also feel like Justin had a different approach to the striking than Volk and Max. Rather than use the jab to try and interrupt Ilia's striking and evade/escape the pocket, Justin seemed to throw much stiffer jabs and then used the clinch to interrupt Ilia's striking. I wonder if you'll see other fighters use that approach with Ilia in the future.

It also could just come down to size. Ilia wouldn't be the first champ humbled chasing a belt in a higher weight division, and he isn't especially big even for featherweight. A lot of those body shots Ilia threw would have put down anyone at FW, but apparently he can't rely on that at LW.

Admitted on instagram it was fucked in round 1 (about 3 min mark) and the other by round 3. Definitely too comfortable taking jabs trying to walk him down. To be fair it looked like the tide had turned by round 2.

Jean Silva (the mad barking Brazilian at 145) on X thought Ilia had spent the first round just making the reads needed to kill him and then went for it the next. Wittman had the right read after round 2 to get Gaethje to press him immediately when Topuria probably wanted a round to recover gas, and most people would be cowed from almost being finished by body shots the previous one.

I don’t get how Gaethje’s body works. The only guy who gave him serious issues with body punching was Alvarez. Both Fiziev and Topuria seemed to gas themselves out hitting his body or even folding him in half with one.

Power merchants always find out the hard way the reason on why weight classes exist.

To cut Ilia some slack, I don't think he made bad decisions in that fight, sure Gaethje's jabs hurt like a motherfucker, but he did manage to walk Justin down to the fence, where he wanted, and Gaethje had no answer to his pressure other than jab.

If Justin fell to those body blows from Topuria, every "fight expert" motherfucker in the world would be singing the praises of Topuria's genius, and how he is the greatest goat to ever goat.

But Topuria's power failed him, simple as that. After that he was looking at 3 rounds with no gas and a broken orbital bone, "fucked" doesn't quite describe his situation.

You're posting on Kiwi Farms, goy.

Gaethje's last opponent if McGregor pulls it off lmao.
It also slipped my mind at how Mickey Mouse shit would get if Holloway vs. Gaethje 2 happened. It would be a good retirement fight for Justin with the shot to avenge that epic loss at UFC 300, and there's a Double Champ opportunity for Max.

If Max becomes LW champ off that, Holloway vs. Volkanovski 4 for Volk's retirement would be a lol lmao type of stupid fight, but Volk gets that second title or Max avenges a failed trilogy.

Ilia was doing good in the first 2 rounds of so. Rocked Gaethje a couple of times and outgrappled him. But the energy expended wrestling combined with the overuse of Ilia's right hand were 2 major factors in the loss (among others).

Ilia really fell in love with the overhand counter the first time he landed it on Gaethje, that he would always go for it even when it made no sense. Eventually Justin adapted like you normally would. So a bit of a fight IQ lapse from Topuria.

Ilia wanted the highlight (heh) reel KO so badly that he was so off mentally. I almost thought that he would pull a Stipe when he fought against DC in their second fight when he started ripping those body blows to the liver and breaking Justin. Then, when the gas tank is busted on Gaethje, Ilia — in an outdoors fight, which turned into a high-paced scrap real quickly, and where both men are sweaty as all hell — decided to grapple on the ground and go for a submission, which to me felt like him going for a finish worthy of the highlight (hahaha).

Whether it's ego-death or an ego high, it's a killer in this sport.

Very happy for Justin, he's an amazing fighter and deserves the dub. The Tony fight still sticks in my mind as the gnarliest one I've ever seen. UFC has been sucky the last three years but seeing my boys Gaethje and Petr Yan get the W is pulling me back. I never got the Topuria hype and didn't think he'd have the size to do too much damage to Justin. How could he be so retarded to underestimate Gaethje? Even Khabib said Justin was the hardest puncher he's ever faced.

There’s some people who, for reasons unknown, just have a weird type of power in their hands. They aren’t the fastest, they aren’t even the heaviest, but somehow they just hurt more than anyone else and I’ve had those types of bizarre hands laid upon me and I just can’t explain it.
It’s just cartoon logic, some people are just out of fuckin’ Tom and Jerry.

He had one of his orbitals broken in the first. He went for broke in the second to get a finish because his eyesight was going. By the third round he's losing vision in both eyes. At the end of the fourth he's blind in two eyes with cracked ribs. Other than his desperation attempt to finish Gaethje in the second round he was getting dominated everywhere else. He had one of the worst game plans I've ever seen from an established champion. He walked face first into one of the hardest punchers in the sport.

Gaethje's corner also had the perfect plan. They told Gaethje not to go for leg kicks until the later rounds and only feint them. This opened up the jab and instantly busted Ilia's face. It also opened up Gaethje being able to pressure Ilia which drained his gas tank. Ilia looked exhausted in the second and confused in the first round. This was a worse beating than Gaethje versus Tony Ferguson which looked like a sanction Roman gladiator murder at some points.
