It must be scary in Maine. Not knowing where this guy is. Fox News reported "BORTAC" unit of the Border Patrol has joined in on the hunt. So far the police haven't any luck but maybe this group will manage to find his location.

He was a fucking POL (petroleum-oil-lubricants) part time Reserve pogue (i.e. drive trucks & store/deliver gas) for 20 years, never deployed, and who filled in as an RSO during range qualifications; which is to make sure "clear on the line!"/"all clear!" is done, soldiers are shooting at their own targets, etc. He helped clean weapons after turning them in, and told anyone who would listen how high-speed he was. Anything else he did was on his own time, not on the Army's dime or instruction. I still haven't seen any instructor certifications from the NRA or anyone else, aside from a gun range operator who said he volunteered to help on the line during classes. He didn't do any special schools, he didn't do shit; and making/keeping rank in the Reserve is a lot easier than in the Guard or active duty.

The "firearm instructing veteran" is a media invention to make him sound even more deadly & dangerous, and to paint real veterans & firearms instructors as unstable potential time-bombs; they've been waiting for just such a maniac for years.

Edit: "Firearm instructor" in the Army is a specific job, requiring specific schooling and experience; which he most certainly did not have.

What I want to know, is how in the fuck do you NOT get deployed while you were in for 20 years, while TWO wars were going on? Like, how much of a fuck up can you be to NEVER get picked to deploy as a reserve, which many did?

Both of my active duty friends who are about this guys age, who are about to retire after 20 years, deployed MULTIPLE times to the middle east... I know "Army Reserve" sees much less action that even National Guard, but while all of those guys were being stoplossed for the surge you would think that they would have at least grabbed a few POGs from the reserves as well.

There's been Missing 411 cases where the person's remains were found years after they went missing only a couple miles from their last known location. This nutcase could be a boogieman for the greater part of this decade before some hunter finds a skeleton laying against a tree with a rusted AR in its mouth just outside of town.

They just found the guy that killed a judge and he was like a mile from his car that they found like a week or two ago. This guy seems crazy enough to be on the run but I figured we would have had another event by now so who knows.

The older I get the more I realize that the only people in the military (or the police) who actually know how to use a gun either handle them regularly because their MOS requires it, or like any other gun enthusiast who never served, like guns as a hobby.

If you've ever watched your local sheriff's office "qualify" you would be shocked how shitty the vast majority are with pistols, barely keep rounds on a full size silhouette target at 10 yards bad with a Glock 19. It has given me a lot of contempt for authority when the people who are trusted to use force on the job can't hit the broadside of a barn from the inside, and aren't fucking forced to fix it. They should all have a single round like Barney Fife, yet they all carry a full loadout, and aren't even responsible for the rounds downrange if they're legally justified in loosing them off.

think it was confirmed that one kid died so far, but could be more. that was the info i remember last night before i hit the hay. i dont think he planned on shooting kids at all if he could help it, since i dont think he knew about whetever game was going on there that night, but he had the location in mind because of "what he heard people saying about him when he was last there" (according to his family). the bar was the same reasoning, but obviously no kids at the bar.
