Jumping on the bandwagon with some stuff that works for me. Like @lamictal said, keto and/or IF is actuallly pretty solid. You'd be surprised how good you feel on "low carb" food in general. (I put that in quotes because if you think about it, we live in a hyper-carby world, so even "low carb" now is more like "The amount of carbs other people ate for the last 6000 years".)
Some other tips I can give:
  • Drink more water. We need more than we think we do. If you can't do water immediately do sparkling water and unsweetened tea. The point is that a lot of times when we think we're hungry we're actually just dehydrated.
  • Added sugars are the enemy. I can elaborate but the takeaway is to learn to read food labels and avoid that shit.
  • Weightlifting is awesome. Muscles use more energy to maintain than fat, so it increases your resting metabolic rate just by existing.
And as always, dieting doesn't work. You have to make permanent changes, because if you're 200+ and not a big-ass dude, then something is wrong to begin with.

That's pretty great advice. I'm trying to get under 200 lbs myself. Sugar is my worst enemy (especially during the summer). Despite not being able to go to the gym, I am thankful I do a lot of walking around and lifting things at my job.

Última edición:
I have PCOS, so I'm low carb and I can 100% say that it's been worth it. I have more energy, I don't get as hungry as often, and the cravings for sugary things has mostly stopped. I like to bake, so I've just switched over to keto recipes if I really start wanting something sweet. I personally don't track my net carbs hardcore, but I make sure the food I have in my house is low carb/keto. It also helps to explore all the food you can still eat instead of thinking about the things you can no longer eat.
My doctor advised against weightlifting for me, but highly encouraged cardio or HIIT stuff. Either way, the best way to burn calories is to move around to some degree.

🤔Can I ask why?
Because it might impact my testosterone levels, apparently, and I'm trying to keep those levels low. I also have seizures (meds don't work), so it's probably a bad idea for safety reasons. I stick to aerobics and yoga, but I also have resistance bands and 10lb weights if I'm feeling dangerous.

There seems to be a lot of debate about whether weightlifting actually impacts testosterone to any meaningful degree in women, though.

Not to be a mega-sperg, but that's that part that threw me. I totally get the seizures thing (stay safe, dammit!) but the testosterone is a pretty common discussion on places like /fit/ and irl in gyms. Aerobics and HIIT is more of a concern for joint reasons (I learned this the hard way).

What it boils down to is that exercise is both great and terrible for you. You're healthy, but at what cost?

Ok gorls, I have a confession to make; I'm not well-versed in the art of skincare. I usually just do the ol' soap and warm water at night after removing my makeup. I've never really struggled with acne or anything, but my skin is pretty sensitive, though it's never been a serious issue. HOWEVER, since starting keto, I've noticed any form of foundation just absolutely burns my face. I'm not sure what the correlation between the two is, but it is frustrating since I like to wear makeup. Do you know what maybe could help with that?

BTW we have a skincare thread as well! https://kiwifarms.net/threads/skincare.31649/

How long have you been doing keto? Often there are some side effects that might crop up when starting it, including keto rash

Well, I feel like an idiot for not seeing that thread. (:_( But thank you!

I've been doing keto + intermittent fasting for roughly three months. I dealt briefly with the "keto flu" when I initially entered ketosis and the whole drinking too much water thing I mentioned earlier, but other than that I hadn't had many issues until recently with trying to apply foundation and concealer.

Maybe it's time to replace the products themselves? Are they liquid-based?

How much water are you drinking?

Good afternoon everyone! Having been inside for the last few months, and not typing nearly as much as I used to when working, I have grown out my nails. I have deep ridges, and am happy with my filling base coat from NailTek (it takes about three coats but it does work).

Question for you all: In my research for a non-UV, mirror chrome nail polish I have been unable to find a US supplier, and I don't feel very confident using the powders. Can any of you point me in the right direction? Thank you in advance :)

Thanks to advice here and me not eating at night, I’ve lost almost 2 pounds in the couple days I’ve been doing this! Thanks guys!
Hang in there, and when you inevitably plateau (we've all been there) from losing the water weight and starting to gain muscle don't give up! Keep going!

Getting my hair dyed pink today. Gonna be a bright pink at first so I just have to dress more punk. Gotta commit to the bit, you know.

That is adorable.

Also, I found these things while looking through Axolotl stuff. I don't care that they're trendy now, they're still cuties.

Fun fact: Axolotls are neotenic, which means they never "grow up" unless they're out of water for a long time or you inject them with iodine. That's why they're cute. They're literally babies.
Here is what a "real" adult looks like:
