I tried witch hazel for a while and started getting more deep, painful cystic acne. I really don't get what my skin does. Also, witch hazel is a gentle astringent that closes your pores, which in turn keeps bacteria from growing and causing acne. Just put a layer on before applying any lotion or foundation.
When I tried going to a dermatologist, they prescribed me something I was allergic to (didn't check my paperwork I guess) but also prescribed Cerave and Cetaphil. I was younger at the time and my skin was weirdly more cooperative, so it worked for maybe a few months. The longest-lasting thing I've tried as an adult was Dr Bronner tea tree bar soap, clearer skin for maybe five months until my skin got used to it again and it came back worse than ever.
I'm just hanging in there skincare-wise until I can go on Accutane.
