Getting older, especially as a woman, you have to readjust your view of yourself or you will start to feel this existential dread like this lady here. At 40, you aren’t going to be able to compete with a hot 22 year old. And dressing like one, or trying to look like one is silly. Instead, you need to strive for elegance and poise. At 22, you want to be trendy, sexy and show off with flashy styles. 40 year olds look best when they present an image of having successful adult lives and careers. It’s still beautiful and they still look good, just in a slightly differently way.

This can be hard for some women to accept because it requires you to admit you aren’t a young 20 something anymore. And most non-binary’s have this exact problem of wanting to hang on to an age bracket they no longer fit in to. I’m going through the same thing to some extent, but find I like the elegant style.

Examples of looking good at 40+:

Crossposting over here because I think you're right, and I have some follow up questions.
For those who don't know the context, we were talking about this woman from the enbies thread:

It looks like part of her issue also is the very shape of her body. She wants to be tall and "rectangular" (and you've posted tall/thin women here, too) but she isn't, so how would you dress a 40 year old version of this?
1673994833124.png

And going off on that, what about things like short or small women who got by on cuteness, how should they transition to elegance as they age?
Is it even possible?
I feel like this is going to be a challenge for a lot of people this author's age and body type, especially with all the gender nonsense going around, there's almost more support for the plus-size "community" than for people who are thin but not willowy.

I am wondering if anyone knows anything about relaxing hair for Caucasian's at home. I'm white but my hair is super coarse, dense, wavy and has gone insane lately. I've called around to different salons about a ''Brazilian blow out'' but it's 500 dollars. I am tempted to use this stuff because it's cheap (12 bucks) and because it's for kids it's not as intense (apparently)

I'd recommend a Japanese straight perm if you can find something near you that will do it.
I don't have experience in hair as much as skin, but when I was more into Asian Beauty. I did occasionally read about Asians thinking Western hair products were too harsh in general. Straight af hair with no frizz at all is considered as beautiful there. So you may look into South-Korean or Japanese hair products? I would not go for anything Chinese though.

Mens clothing. Womens clothing are more designed to "hug" the curves of the womens body.

Eh, just dress elegant like regular tall women. Use some higher heels if you need to. Zoomers like to dress sneakers with dresses and everything, but it will never not look slobbish. Just use some time to get a pair of boot/heels that aren't uncomfy af to use over time.

Lolita is mostly seen as pedobait in the West @RoyalPrincess

I think I'm the only one here who loves Lolita style? I'm 28. Angelic Pretty is my favorite brand.

I have lots of stuff! I mostly prefer Taobao brands though. Brands that come to mind for me are Alice Girl,

Princess Chronicles,

and Castletoo.

If it were that easy, then we wouldn't need petite sizes. If you try to wear standard clothes and you're under 5'4" you start looking like you're playing dress-up right quick.

I did find these things, though. Thoughts?

This looks terrible.

Mostly, but not always. Maybe it's because I'm weeb trash, but I just see it as a fashion fandom at this point.

Not gonna lie, I like the dress.

I mean, it looks bad. But if the troon want to look like that.

I meant dress regularly in clothes that fit your UwU petite self.

Fuck no, and girl is fake and uggo.
Black dress and red jumper would I describe as elegant. I already hate clothes in a nude color, but the seam right where her vagoomba is makes it uncomfy to look at (the pants at the start)

I think EGL can be really pretty and admire the women that can pull it off well, but for some reason the male-equivalent "dandy"/ouji style always looks goofy af to me. Is there any boy-style fashion that doesn't look like bad cosplay at a Victorian renfaire?
Ouji is generally targeted at women over men. It's an extremely diverse sub-genre though. I wear the latter two styles from these images quite regularly. If you fundamentally don't like the Victorian aesthetic; there isn't much that won't look silly; if any, it's the primary inspiration after-all. Like a lot of lolita, there's a huge danger of being *too* overdressed in public, which might be a concern. At that point your coord flips from being seen as exotic to a Halloween costume. Now, some are just inherently too costume-y -there are still tons of coords that can be quite flattering as long as you know less is more. If the make or break isn't just the clothing itself, it's accessories pushing it over the top.

This outfit is impossible to wear without it being seen as a costume.

The keys are a little much; but in my opinion it stays out of the "this is a halloween costume" first glance without them.

Similar story here, get rid of the dangling chains, maybe add a lapel pin.

Oh I don't know those brands,I need to check them out. The only thing I don't like is shipping from Japan to my country,we have to pay fees in Europe.

I didn't know it can be used as pedo bait omg..
@Yaoi Zowie Alice and the pirates maybe? But I'm a girl so I need to search it up.

Taobao brands are Chinese. It's necessary to order them through a shipping service or a direct lolita reseller. In the case of the latter, they're often double the price of the item, before accounting shipping. However, if you order single pieces from a shipping service, the price tends to even out - so it's necessary to make mid-sized purchases of 5-7 items to maintain the competitive price point. In regards to quality, Chinese lolita brands aren't cheap garbage, and I personally find them more creative than the Japanese brands. But, the expensive japanese stuff I have is definitely of a higher quality.

Maybe stick to that. It's often a reason as for why something is a bit more conservative. And more "creative" Chinese brands sounds like a recipe for it to look way cheap, tacky and like a cosplay.
I think I'll stick to buying as I please. It's very nice to have access to both quality staples and brands that produce interesting pieces I like.

The second and third outfits look actually pretty wearable! Especially if the accessories are toned down, as you mentioned. I learned something new today :)

Also seconding Taobao actually being really nice for cheap staples. I own a couple Taobao reps of some Rick Owens tees & tank tops that I always loved the design of, but couldn't justify spending hundreds of dollars on a T-shirt. I honestly wonder if they're coming from the same factory as the originals because they fit and feel the same as legit pieces I've tried on.

Lolita initially got me into jfashion but I've pretty much cleared out my collection at this point. It was just too impratical to wear. Like why do I have all these 400 dollar dresses that I don't get a chance to wear hardly ever because I only go to work or the grocery store. Plus I really don't like public attention. Now my wardrobe mainly consists of AnkRouge and Liz Lisa shit because it's still unique and feminine but doesn't make me stick out like a sore thumb when I go outside.
I highly recommend shopping on Japanese Mercari for any lolita or jfashion. You need a proxy to buy but it's still worth it with fees, the selection and price is tremendously better than western market.

edit** Not to mention the lolita community is rampant with gendered people and troons so I didn't want to associate with that group any longer.

I am going to post a gross thing I learned recently in case it helps anyone. I always air dry my hair. It is thick and curly so takes a while. I also use a satin sleep cap. Been battling dandruff issues. Realized my scalp being damp for so long and then sometimes concealed in a cap was causing it :C and blow drying the top of my head on low to ensure my scalp is dry has been a miracle. Ive tried everything, for years. If anyone has the same issue.....maybe your wet hair is causing dandruff. Sometimes dandruff is caused by yeast or fungal overgrowth. I feel stupid and gross lol.

Second- best brands for high quality denim or mostly denim jeans? Not stretchy and thin and pre distressed but something I can wear and be mean to for a long time? Women's jeans

I'm still mad that beauty influencers convinced us all that we should be wearing THICK foundation every day back in like 2016-18. I say a nikkie shoet today and the amount of foundation she put on was just baffling to me- she put more on one cheek that I would wear on my whole face lmao. Tinted BB creams are where it's at these days.
