Personally from the trailers, this film is going to be a hard pass for the time being. The trailers have it seem like that it can't decide if it wants to be a mystery or a comedy and decides to go awkward with both. Though I am of the judgement that when you are making a film like this, you need to decide which you are making first and the other second, otherwise you won't do both very good.

Yeah it's already being inflated on RT, so...

More of we're the bad guys if we do not like it.

Simply refuse to watch anything if it becomes a social credit check to cash.

Because it will show in its raw quality alone.

I’m curious if TLJ will affect this film’s box office and whether it’ll fuck Lionsgate.

I wouldn't be surprised if the controversy over TLJ ended up helping the film.

I sincerely doubt the film will be a financial disaster. Its budget is purported to be around $40 million, so its almost impossible that it will not turn a profit with the marketing, star power and distribution Lionsgate put in place.

If not TLJ, maybe the fact that the film pisses off Trump voters and RJ posit off people on Twitter maybe a issue.

I'm going to be blunt but you're an idiot if you think most people care about the political views of those working on movies beyond those who deliberately want to look into it, and most people do not even use Twitter.

Not saying this movie is good but you have to be delusional if Rian Johnson's political views will turn normal people off.

Ah, the fabled "normal people" who happen to have the exact same opinions of those attempting to speak for them.

Yes because anyone who disagrees with someone over the idea that people won't see a movie because Rian said things about Trump voters is clearly a liberal.

To continue this logic is stupid because if insulting Trump voters gets a movie to bomb then many movies in general would bomb considering most of Hollywood is liberal and a lot of prominent directors (i.e. Quentin Tarantino and Spike Lee) are outspoken against Trump/Trump voters yet their movies will still bomb.

I am not saying this movie or Rian are good (as this movie looks bad and Rian I could really give less of a shit about) but I am saying that most people really don't give a shit about politics and unless Rian pulls a GhostBusters 2016 in terms of marketing strategy as in constantly insult potential audience members, then I could see this bomb. Realistically this movie will just be passable in terms of box office, it won't make a truckload but will make it's budget back so it will likely not be a bomb or a hit.

To give him some credit, I think that RJ is really strong in terms of directing. He directed some of the best episodes of Breaking Bad, and the shot composition was one of the few things I didn't dislike about TLJ.

I wanna believe he was just a poor fit for Star Wars, but this isn't looking too promising.
I think he's a good director but goes off the rails when he's allowed to write or delve too far into the creative process. Same mistake they made when they decided to let Lucas or Abrams get their hands into every single part of production.

That's exactly how I feel, and part of the reason why I haven't completely written this off yet. Brick and Looper were entertaining, and he directed some of the best episodes of Breaking Bad. I'm hoping that TLJ was just a misstep in an otherwise solid career, though some of the humor from what I've read sounds pretty cringe.

So the movie sold me on its casting, and then I heard that most of that cast wasnt actually in the movie much so I became prepared to have my expectations subverted hard

So its well shot, actors are all doing a good job [no one really has a great performance but they didnt really have anything to really be great with.

Evans and Craig are both given lots of good entertaining stuff to go with. Craig gets to chew on scenes .

The Alt-Right troll being about SW fanboys and the Trump stuff wasn't what clickbait tried to make you think it was (expectations subverted!). Its just to make all the rich people unlikeable assholes

The movie isn't really a mystery [expectation subverted !] its a thriller.

Rian thinks he is a lot more clever then he is, but the script is surprisingly clever in places. He thinks he is a lot smarter then he is but the script isnt super smart either

This spoiler is about the ending. Unlike the spoilers above this actually spoils the entire movie

The "Guilty party" was Chris Evan's character. But as usual with Rian Johnson's scripts thats not where his story was going.

Christopher Plumber's character was a narcissist and a manipulator. He kept his entire family anchored to him. He had SOME KIND of medical issue. I feel like it should have been cancer but Rian pussed out. He liked to play games with them [and also control games]. He didn't need to be murdered to set up the ending.

The ending should have been him setting up an elaborate suicide after pitting his family against each other. Having the only two people who consistently beat him at go [Chris Evans and the Hispanic nurse character] be the only two who had any capacity to figure it all out or at least get to the 'Donut Hole' of the Mystery.
