Is it another astroturfed Marxist feminist written turd like the incel boy Adolescence movie last year?
No. It's been discussed quite a bit in this thread. Also Adolescence is a police procedural drama TV miniseries why the fuck would you think they'd be similar?

No. It's been discussed quite a bit in this thread.
And it sounds like shit. Mediocre at best. Discussion slop that's already been forgotten here. The film talks shit. But doesn't give a message that hasn't already been explored and been performed better be it books or other cinema.

Aiko and Punpun's complex relationship in Goodnight Punpun was more terrifying than the shit I've seen with Obsession. Everyone talks about Bear, but not Ian, the catalyst for it all.
The message is white noise. Successfully. Will win an Oscar or be a nominee if nothing better comes out this year.

Then why are you asking if it's a marxist feminist film? Why are you equating it to a police procedural miniseries? I'm genuinely confused.

It's an incredibly mid horror movie that would like to be saying something about female autonomy in a relationship, I think, but it is too cowardly to commit to any sort of statement or message so it's just about a boy who can't stop fucking a possessed girl.

Then why are you asking if it's a marxist feminist film? (It literally is and it has a nihilistic message at the end like most of them do). Why are you equating it to a police procedural miniseries? (The discussions surrounding it are basically the same shit with awful takeaways and solutions.) I'm genuinely confused.

(This is what a male written movie with feminist intentions looks like.)
That's the thing. It's too cowardly to say anything. It's not good horror. It's not a good sounding film. It has okay cinematography. The acting is embarrassing and uses an overacted "crazy girl" as usual. It's glorified art house exploitation with a director literally named CURRY. Like some Indian dish.

This sounds more interesting.

I equate it to the shitshow last year because it creates pointless discussions that never go anywhere and only create more gender sperg wars while being shallow as fuck and too afraid to commit to anything but another nihilistic, negative message that we clearly need. Looks like it was directed by a performative male rather than someone with experience like a woman who's been through a terrible relationship.

I want to strangle the guy last page who celebrated too early on not having a retard shitting up the thread.
The reason Obsession is talked about much is that it's an orginial movie in an era of sequels and remakes. Plus it also fills a lot of spots where both normies and hardcore horror fans can enjoy it. Can it stand the test of time like the classics? I don't know, but it breaking a lot of records likely means it has legs.
Backrooms somewhat needs a watching of the series to connect some dots.

Watched Boar out of pure boredom. An okay creature feature of a rampaging giant boar with really good practical effects, but you can tell they ran out of budget at the climax because wtf was that. Doesn't hold a candle to Razorback though, but I like it enough.

The original twlight zone episode covers the concept better.
Episodes, you mean. I remember one with a love potion/necromancry and one that ended with the girl chasing the man into the afterlife.
Zoomers barely know Twilight Zone, and if they do, they will think about the dumb Jordan Peele one because it's the recent one

That's the thing.
I don't think all horror needs to have some grand message, but if you're trying to say something, you should commit to it. I suspect heavily that Obsession leaned way harder into "Bear is a predator" in earlier drafts but it was toned down to make it more palatable to a broader audience. I predict that people will be praising it for years to come, like Hereditary.

I think art and horror should terrify or move you at the risk of crafting a niche. Especially for psychological stuff. I think it should shake the audiences hearts. Make them think about it.

With how people talk about it, they imply there is some brand message when there's not much to it because of how it reduced itself.

Art yes, horror no. I don't think all horror needs to be art. It's okay to see a big monster or slasher carving up teens and laugh through your mouthful of popcorn and go "heheh nice."

That's still art.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre is art. The Hills Have Eyes is art. The Evil Dead is art. The dawn of the dead films are all art. Even when they're fun and there's not much of a message. It's fine for horror to be AAAAH SCARY BLOOD. I enjoy the Terrifier films.

A lot of modern films are not genuine art however. Shit that tries to mimic artistic visions and fall flat are worse than stuff you can turn your mind off to. That's my point. I made a point to specify PSYCHOLOGICAL HORROR. And why it should be something more than what they usually turn out to be. It's on you to be obtuse with it and avoid my point.

All the shit spawned from Donnie Darko ruined psychological films forever I think. They're hard to describe but it's like Jordan Peele films. They have a vague message. But they equate to nothing. Even with cheap scary films you can take away something fun from it. What does Obsession have? Hereditary? Get the fuck out of here. I see no one discussing that film compared to the classics.

It's nothing original. I wouldn't give it any credit there. "Be careful what you wish for" is a tired fucking concept. Schlop churned out from the ideas machine. Pretentious as all Hell. Doesn't have a decent takeaway other than "fuck".
I think there's a brain plague or something.

If you can't properly convey your ideas and you try to explore a subject that's been explored enough but can't even commit to the idea you've made a film worse than even the cheapest and sleaziest horror flick. You yourself said it was 5/10. But I think it's deserving of scrutiny. Instead it's astroturfed and worshipped like the second coming of Christ like everything that's not completely awful is.

if you haven’t watched a movie how about you stop being a fucking useless nigger and don’t shit up the thread with your culture war bullshit

I didn’t watch your mother get plowed by three crackheads on of and so you won’t ever hear me discuss how her fat ass is lazy with her hjs or some shit

Not many people working on Alien believed in penis aliens coming to rape them either. What a retarded idea.
The difference, you huge faggot, is that Alien was science-fiction, whereas many of those horror films about demons are intended to be based on things people actually believe.

I'll take the retarded cynic dunce cap for a billion dollars.

The lesson I take away is don't order pussy ass feminine drinks like Pina Coladas in front of girls, always order HARD LIQUOR from the bar!

And don't make halfhearted wishes. Can't force someone to love you. And can't expect them to love you more than anyone in the fucking world.

And stick to women who you know like you.
Don't try to force your way onto someone else you have eyes for. Recognize the eyes that rest on you and consider them properly.

The only thing that bothers me about the movie is why Ian decided to go to Bears house. It didn't serve any purpose. It was retarded. It made zero sense, I guess he forgot that Bear introduced Ian to it and was right there??? For the shock value too I guess. Now all of Nikki's friends are dead. It was okay. It was well done mostly. I wish we had more moments with Sarah but it was pretty tragic on its own.

Tragic tale.

Saw Backrooms and all I can say is "boy, what a load of wasted fucking potential"

You know how I ranted about Weapons having a fantastic premise and then you get into it and then it just eats itself trying to split between three different concepts without really committing to any of them? That's backrooms.

PICK A FUCKING A-PLOT RETARDS. If it's your directorial debut, don't over-complicate things and get caught eating shit, unless you REALLY know what you're doing (Primer is my go to example)

I think we disagree on what art is and if all films should be art and I won't derail the thread with that. Plenty of average moviegoers enjoy silly spooks like jump scares and people smiling uncannily and Obsession had that. It also had a wet fart attempt at a message, which your average "elevated horror" moviegoer nowadays will gobble up. Hereditary had fantastic acting and cinematography and score and the twist was quite unexpected. Even though it wasn't my cup of tea personally. Beyond that, you're overthinking it. Not all horror is art and it doesn't have to be.

PICK A FUCKING A-PLOT RETARDS
Brother I don't think there's even a B plot in that movie, what are you talking about?

It's a stolen plot from Tales From they Crypt / Twilight Zone, stretched out over a series of TikTok skits. It's absolute dogshit, and it gets traction because zoomers are obsessed with exaggerated facial expressions. Every behind the scenes clip I saw get astroturfed onto my social media feed was them discussing the girl making faces. It is absolutely gay and pathetic, the state of modern horror. Just complete and utter "slop" as the kids say.

"Elevated Horror" did more damage to horror films than Twilight did to vampires.
