SAN DIEGO, Calif. — A frantic search is underway for high-powered explosives that have vanished from Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms—the largest United States Marine Corps base.

Officials at the Southern California base reported the missing items to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department last week. The Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) is also on the case.

KGTV reported: Sources report that approximately 10 pounds of Composition C-4 disappeared during a long training exercise two weeks ago. They also believe the manufactured plastic explosives may have been stolen.

The unit’s commanding officer is considering extending the training exercise until the explosives are found, sources said. They also confirm the commanding officer messaged subordinate commands about a monetary reward for any information leading to the discovery of the C-4.

Spokesperson for NCIS Public Affairs, Jeff Houston, said in a brief statement, “Out of respect for the investigative process, NCIS does not comment on or confirm details relating to ongoing investigations.”

Not a good look...!

Kind of reminds me of those rifles going missing at 3/6.

I think it was 2008 or 2009, but there was an incident at the ordnance storage facility on MCAS Cherry Point. Some spouse in an SUV took a wrong turn on base and ended up at the outer gate of the storage facility. I don't know if she had officer stickers on the truck or what, but she ended up making it past all the gates (2 or 3) and to the entry of the facility before having her credentials questioned. It was a pretty big deal on base but I don't recall if the news made it much further. I'm not exactly sure what they stored there since we didn't have permanant infantry units on base, but I'd guess there were some 500lb JDAMs and HE cannon ammunition in there.

Cherry Point is just a weird fucking place that turns normal people insane and PMO lazy. Back in the Clinton years there was Sergeant Levesque, AKA The Flightline Bandit. Being an Air Station, plenty of people have gate access, the good Sergeant was one of them. The good Sergeant was also an avid fisherman (because there's nothing else to fucking do there). So one day, the Sergeant decides to use his gate access and drives his POV to the far end of the flightline to fish in the lake. Meanwhile, somewhere in the sky, AirForce One was in a holding pattern, because the Secret Service couldn't verify if the Sergeant's truck was authorized or not and contemplating detonating it. Upon returning to his truck, he was apprehended, questioned, placed in the brig, and while he faced no immediate reprocussions; he knew he would never make Staff.

I think Cherry Point's problem is its attached to a small nowhere town in the middle of a forest. If you're not into hunting/fishing or low quality strip clubs; you're gonna go insane.

Kind of reminiscent of how all that anthrax got stolen from the DoD right before the first WTC bombing, and then again right before 9/11 (and the subsequent anthrax attacks).

They've lost it, or rather they can't account for it.

10 lbs is a relatively small amount, which means it's come out of the tin. It was probably handed back in, they lost track on paper, and will never be able to actually confirm they have it. They can go through counting every single block in the compound but that will only give them an idea.

It's most likely some fat civvie's fault, it's only an issue, because the MSM thinks the US military is full of Proud Boys.
