I too hope this is a subversion and a swipe at crybullies. But I can see them completely miss the point of the original and try to make the antagonists really sympathetic. All I know is there seems to be a trend of making the trailers look terrible in order to attract hatewatchers.

While making the Heathers all Tumblrites is definitely going to produce a lot of salt among that group - I expect salt from both sides in this if my predictions are correct.

Remember that the Heathers are awful people, but they're not the real antagonist of the film in the end; that honor goes to J.D., who goes off the deep end and hatches a plan to blow up the school and kill everyone ("Now there's a school that self-destructed, not because society didn't care, but because the school was society!")

Now given what they've done to the Heathers - what do you think they'll probably make J.D. in this remake?... I think you all know.

Of course, they could reverse it and have J.D. and Veronica be SJWs instead... but that would draw salt as well. There is simply no way to update the film to 2017 and not produce salt.

But in the end, as Jay Sherman said - "If it's a remake of a classic, rent the classic!"

I wanted to be angry, but this might actually be a risky move on them. The antagonists are an FA landwhale, a genderqueer, and an asian (...?) Can't wait for all the cries of "problematic!!"
We might even get a small salt mine thread:story:

Still looks like shit though. Fat Heather's actress seems like she's trying a bit too hard to sound like the popular, bitchy, thin, blonde stereotype her character originally was.

Well, shit. You weren't kidding.

And the tv tropes ymnv for the reboot is just as Tumblry as I expected.

It seems that sjws pretend that minorities were never the bullies and always pretend that bullies are only white people.

85% chance of the movie being mediocre and forgotten about in two-three weeks, 10% chance of it being THAT FUCKING BAD and going down in the endless sea of shitty remakes, and 5% chance of being better/on par with the older movie/musical.

Just some general problems from the trailer:
1. JD's dialogue isn't just incredibly cringey, it actually betrays the original point of his character. In both the movie and the musical he was supposed to be a sly manipulator that slowly pulled Veronica to the dark side, not just a totally upfront psychopath freak.
2. Despite this he's apparently more effective. The trailer makes it look like Veronica is fully on board with the murders and enjoying it as much as him. So apparently she went from normal teen to full sociopath in the blink of an eye just from meeting him. Sounds like terrible writing and takes away any sympathy the audience could possibly have for Veronica.
3. I don't necessarily mind the idea of having "alternative" Heathers to shake things up, but they should at least look the same. In the original tension came from the pressure put on Veronica to conform to the Heathers' standard, but if all the Heathers have a unique style and personality then what's there to conform to?
Hopefully this reboot will actually have a new take on things with an entirely new message, but so far it just looks like a shoddy remake that arbitrarily changed things up just to be "edgy" and different without really thinking about how the changes reflect the themes and overall message of the story.

To be fair, almost all of those entries are just documenting what the general complaints have been rather than making definitive statements, so not necessarily representative of what whoever wrote them thinks personally.

IT'S NOT A MOVIE IT'S A FUCKING TV SERIES.
Considering the original was a movie that parodied the wave of recent (at the time) films the glorified teen suicide, I really don't know how this is going to work out.

What I'm guessing is a generic sitcom with a Heathers paint job. Kinda like a serial killer disguised in a skin suit.

I honestly don't think that most of the SJWs commenting even know that. Complaining about stuff they haven't even actually watched is pretty much their specialty.

The social media person is antagonizing them.

Though I suspect those of us interested in SJW screeching will be disappointed.

Well they're already chimping out and pulling the SJW card so this has to be absolute shit.

So this will either be a shot-by-shot remake of the original film, or just turn it upside down and have the Heathers kill JD and Veronica.

They're not doing the latter, because that might actually be subversive and funny.
