It's a shame -for them- that it was released the same year as Dunk and Egg. Or the same century. I feel like, for the people who diligently watch all Got related stuff, it's gonna feel like whiplash and an absolute disappointment after such perfect good first season of AKOTSK.
HOTD and Dunk and Egg are so fundamentally different on the tonal level that if HOTD was executed properly (which it isn't, the themes of the book have been pretty much lost as well as their being a lot of effort put in Rhaenyra's defence and Alicent being made into her lesbian lover). However, I wouldn't say AKOTSK's first season was perfect primarily because of the flashback stuff in the 5th episode. It felt like it overstayed its welcome and it was like "ehh", but I'm typically not a fan of battle/fighting episodes. The only ones I've really liked in GOT was Blackwater + Defenders of the Wall. I will critique the living daylight of the Battle of Rook's Rest in HOTD, especially with how it butchers Aemond and turns Vhagar into a stealth dragon.

A Martell as black (okay that works in terms of creative liberties)? Lyanna Stark as Black? Welp, Rhaegar is now America with all of his oil drigging. At least all the cool characters like Tywin and Robert are white. But to give the starks of all people, who are from the North. You know the place where Winter exists, and is pretty dire doesn't really make sense. You have Dorne if you want all the racial undertones and social politicking.
There is a weird obsession some have with Dorne thinking they all are very dark. While the Martell are definitely a bit darker than the rest of the Andals and First Men, not only this "darkness" is barely a tan, but they ignore that Stony Dornish exist, Dornish who descend from the First Men or Andals and are whiter than the Martells. Arthur and Ashara were Stony Dornish with purple eyes. The Martells are salty Dornish, meaning they have olive skin, which is basically being Meds.

It's a plot point in the Dance of the Dragon story, where after the Blacks take over Kings Landing, Rhaenyra has Alicent and her daughter gangraped repeatedly over the course of a year, with each raped by men day and night and told that the rape will only stop when they give birth to a bastard, as far as Rhaenyra being butt hurt that her own whoring and reputation as an uncle fucking cocksleeve is public knowledge and why no one wants her as queen, especially after ordering the killing of Alicent's grandson
