Hate Maruchan ramen - anything better? - Come discuss whatever is better than Maruchan ramen

I think Nissin Tokyo Shoyu might have the best flavour broth of them all, but the noodles themselves aren't the best.

Back in Uni I had a jar of pork soup concentrate (pic for reference but not this brand), some udon noodles in the cupboard, meatballs in the freezer and eggs in the fridge. Way better than instant noodles and easy too. I didn’t mind the Korean ones with copious amount of cheese on top either.

Nowadays I don’t eat instant noodles.

These pork flavored Mama brand noodles are surprisingly very good even though they're extremely cheap, like barely any more expensive than a package of Maruchan noodles, if you can find them in a pack they're even cheaper like that and I usually get like 2 of them if I'm able
For authentic thai experience sprinkle with sugar (not a joke)

Found Sapporo Ichiban tonkotsu at Target, which I'd never had. Was pretty good. Actually bit the bullet and bought a 5 pack of their miso ramen (had it, goated) and shio ramen (never had it). There was a listing for individual packs of the chow mein but the added shipping cost for 5 of them was like 40 bucks, fuck that. Just that shipping fee was more than the rest of the cart with taxes and shipping.

My South Korean friend introduced me to black bean noodles. That shit is amazing. It's even better with a little gochujang, but what isn't better with gochujang?
Late reply, but I've not seen Gochujang in my area before I will keep an eye out for it. seems like it would go good with lime. but thats just me being an addict to Lime Chilli flavors.

I buy a lot of my more niche Asian stuff online because it's hard to get them in my area. I can find gochujang in both tubs and plastic squeeze bottles, thankfully. Check the international/Asian section of your local grocery store next time you're there. That's where I find my gochujang. I prefer the red squeeze bottle version.

If you do try ordering it online, do not buy the tubs. I made this mistake and ended up with opened rotten gochujang I couldn't return.

I might try putting some lime in my gochujang sometime. I prefer it on its own or with mayo. It's also good mixed with soy sauce and sesame oil.

If your goal is sustenance just buy a rice cooker bro.
They're $15, last forever, and are retard simple to use.

You can buy a 5 lb bag of white rice for $3 and that's 12.5 cups uncooked, 37.5 cups of rice cooked, or 7687 calories.

Rice absorbs flavor from anything you put in it just like ramen
This, though I would recommend springing for a fuzzy logic rice cooker as they make drastically better rice than a cheapo rice cooker. I like to put a mix of tomato and chicken bouillon cubes in the water to make a cheater mexican rice.

Someone else has already recommended chapagetti (so good!)

But my other fave is the Ottogi Spicy Jin Ramen. I like to make it with a bunch of mixed veggies in it as it boils, and crack an egg into it in the last minute or so of cooking. Amazing.

And I also got this YouUs kimchi stew ramen a while back and it was one of the best kimchi ones I've ever had, like the broth was very flavourful. Kimchi ramyun is a fave of mine but not all of them are hits

So the Shio arrived, and that matters more since I never had it. Any time I've had a new ramen for the first time, I make it with just the noodles and whatever seasoning/soup packets it comes with to get a feel for it. Shio was pretty good, can see why it's "salt ramen", but it wasn't overpoweringly salty. Fairly light broth. Would be good with seafood, chicken, pulled pork (not mixed with any sauce obv) or just veg

Snapdragon ramen is probably the best instant ramen I've had, but shit's also three bucks for a cup and probably half the size of a standard ramen brick, so there's not a lot of value for money beyond the better flavor.

You need to try these.
Laksa La Mian - it’s like a spicy coconut curry with ramen noodles. The noodles have a real nice bite to them, firmer and chewier than other instant noodles.

It’s good on its own because of the coconut milk sauce. But…If you add things like spinach, cilantro, a soft boiled egg, leftover roast meats, frozen raw shrimp, it makes a good square meal very quickly.

Maruchan is my favorite since I was little and I have yet to get old of it.
That's where I am. I've been eating Maruchan since I was a kid and still eat it. I grew up where money was tight, went to college where money was better spent on beer, and got a job where I wasn't paid enough, so I've been eating shit tier forever and it's just kind of where I'm used to.

Normally I just drain the water off after boiling and add the flavoring packet and eat the noodled relatively dry. You have to eat quick before they start to stick together. Or I'll add in some veggies and some meat as a soup, but again, you have to eat quick before it cools off. One thing I've noticed is it now takes longer to get to al dente when boiling the noodles. It took three minutes for ever, then 3 and a half, and now it's up to four.

Sapporo has some good stuff too.
I love saving the chicken flavor packets because I can get like 6 bowls of broth out of it. I add green onions, ginger, garlic, and sometimes mushrooms.

Hey man. Take a walk on the wild side. How about something savoury instead of salty or spicy? Its black bean sauce.

Combining this with shin ramyun to make chapashin is the best ramen, in my opinion.

It's good enough for a famous chef.

Shin and Buldak are both quite good. My local discount food store (Grocery Outlet) usually has a rotating stock of both brands, so their prices are much lower, but the specific flavors will be a bit of a crap-shoot.
Walmart should have buldak as well. Probably not as cheap as grocery outlet, though.

Already been posted here, but yeah:

For a wet (soup) ramen, Nongshim stuff is great.
For a dry ramen, Indomie Mi Goreng and the various Buldaks, I'll also add Nissin Demae Yakisoba.

Honestly though, instead of buying instant ramen I would say buy a wok and learn to make your own stir fry noodles. Doesn't take much time to stir fry some chicken thigh, some chopped veggies, and throw in some boiled ramen noodles, then toss in some sauce and mix it all up. 900% healthier and tastier than any instant ramen. I usually mealprep a big Tupperware of fried chicken pieces, chopped raw veggies, and just toss everything together with some ramen I boil for 4-5 minutes. Takes 10 minutes to make it when you're hungry.

I once found this at a discount clothing store and have never been able to find it again. It was the best packaged ramen I've ever had.
Looks like Nongshim probably discontinued it given its not listed on their site anymore.

On a side note this thread reminds me of the classic desert ramen "sundae ramen" some animal made on 4chan
