Halo MCC/Infinite/general Griefing thread - Six months, two maps, no refunds
Correct, from a writing perspective the mission was authored before the Infinity was authored, but that's an artifact of it not really mattering what the contingency plans were at the time the mission was planned. From the at-the-moment lore perspective, it was a practically suicide mission to buy time, and some time later they settled on what they actually bought that time for. This is a pretty normal writing thing, putting out threads having no idea what you'll do with them and resolving them some point later.
It would've made more sense if the Infinity was a straight up Forerunner Super Star Destroyer that the Earth government cooked up after the war. Humanity suffered great losses at the hands of both the Covenant and the Flood, but on the plus side got loads of Forerunner tech when they started pilfering the Ark's remains and exploring other Forerunner installations and foundries. They discover an old Forerunner shipyard whose AI still works, and it recognizes humans as living Forerunner. They then give it enough raw resources to create a powerful battle dreadnought, because while the Covenant Empire is broken, remnants of it still live and harass human settlements on occasion, so the UNSC pulls a page from Grand Moff Tarkin's playbook and they have a large warship like the Infinity made, with the most advanced Forerunner weapons tech on hand, piloted by a newly-minted Forerunner AI that is completely loyal to the human government. They use it as a terror weapon to frighten the Covenant remnants into surrendering. The Infinity is barely big enough to carry a city's worth of people, but it is big enough to be used as a terror weapon. The UNSC lacks the numbers to deploy troops everywhere due to the past war, so they would logically rely on terror weapons like the Spartans and Infinity to deter would-be attackers.
So if the forerunners are humans than I have a few curiosities.
How long was it that the forerunners died out before humanity evolves to what it is? Did they plant humans on earth? Did they set the seeds for specific evolution to make new forerunners aka humans? Are there differences between humans and forerunners like there being different breeds for dogs but they are same species? Were the forerunners apes before they became forerunners like apes were to humans? Why did they choose earth out of all the planets? And how is it that only one planet had humans when the forerunners could go anywhere?
I wonder if this is what went through guilty sparks head while he was learning about humanity.

I suppose some of them just had amnesia when they landed on Earth. War does tend to destroy a lot of what once was there. It took 1000 years for Europe to recover what was lost when Rome fell.
Because all life had just been wiped from the galaxy due to the flood and the firing of the rings. They just put humanity (forerunners) back on the planet from which they came.

In old Bungie Lore, Earth was the Forerunner homeworld, which is why you'd find more Forerunner technology the closer you got to our homeworld. Which is also why the Ark's portal was on Earth. in the original plans for Halo 2 before they ran out of time, the Ark itself was supposed to be on Earth.
In the original idea for Halo the Forerunners left a machine on Earth that would slowly start re-teaching humanity everything the Forerunners had, which is why Earth's architecture when you visit during Halo 2 looks so similar to Forerunner architecture and why Spartan Armor is said to look similar to Forerunner combat suits in the OG.
There probably are, we don't know though. in the original Earth Ark level an Elite would find a human skeleton in a forerunner tomb and it looks like a modern human skeleton.
Because Earth, again, was their homeworld. They reseeded every species in the galaxy on their homeworld regardless of how advanced they were. They probably wanted humanity to reform as naturally as possible to avoid instant hubris and them becoming warmongers or something. Especially since, as far as we know based on Bungie lore, they stayed back in the galaxy fighting to the last man to keep the Flood at bay, and were all killed when the array fired. So there were no humans that survived to teach the reseeded Humanity anything. So the Forerunners probably wanted the reseeded humanity to learn everything from scratch instead of handing them the keys to a galactic empire that they wouldn't be able to fully understand.
It's like giving a teenager a credit card with no limit; they'd eventually fuck up somewhere.

I remember buying a Halo 3 comic back when the hype for the game was at a fever pitch. I doubt I have it anymore, but are the comic series relevant or can they be ignored?
Personally, and I know this is going to get me firing lined by Halo 1 Shotgun, but I don't mind Forerunners being a different species than humanity. I do mind learning so much shit about them in the 343 stuff. Do not explain them. Keep them a mysterious ancient species that died out well before Humanity took to the stars. Stop explaining the ancient species, everyone who does so sucks at it!

My rule of thumb when it comes to books or comic books for Halo is to just straight up ignore anything that 343 had a hand in making. So anything that was published after 343 came into an existence I tend to ignore. So if the comic came out in the Bungie Era go nuts

Basically saying that the current devs changed the models, didn't update their damage rules, which resulted in them taking damage as if they were in vehicles.
Jaime Griesemer, the game designer behind the Pillar of Autumn mission in Halo: Combat Evolved and also one of the head gameplay designers for the Halo games and Destiny 1, has hypothesized that the reason why the women were invincible was most likely damage transfer not being set up since the women are all new models.

Or how the prequel mission plan revolved around capturing a Prophet if possible. How would Chief, Johnson, or the UNMC know what a Prophet is or even look like? Up until that point, the only contact humanity made with a Prophet was in Halo Wars, but the Spirit of Fire never made it back to UNSC space to report it.
