looks like prey (not the first one)
On point actually. Lots of people have made the comparison between abiotic factor, prey and deus ex. Since it literally is "Half life: The immersive sim."

You have tons of ways to approach all the levels and all the encounters. Since the game is way bigger though its considerably more freeform and the old "stack boxes" technique is in full display since one the first things you get the ability to craft is a super jump pad that launches you like 50 meters skyward. Imagine if you could just scale the outside walls using suction cups made of plungers to get to the top of tai yong medical in deus ex.

Enviromental storytelling is also great. One of my favourites is when you find a random hat in a coatrack and whenever you try to put it on, a few seconds later it gets automatically unequiped with no explenation. Then later on you find a log entry from a bunch of scientists researching "The hat that compells you to take it off.""

If you liked prey you'll 100% love abiotic.

I guess i will pick it up. I did like Prey.

What's the catch? You make it sound really good, but games are never good. What are you hiding?
There's no catch, its actually that good. I was also shocked when I finished it because after the halfway point I was constantly waiting for the other shoe to drop like a reveal that it was all a dream or some shit only for it to never actually do.

Well. We shall see. I'm putting it on the "games I will check out if they get a dsiscount" list. Which is my only list.

Tripmine Studios (devs of the still-in-development Opposing Force remake Operation: Black Mesa) released a video where they answer a bunch of questions.

They also answered a bunch of questions on Steam.

Q&A Part 2

Honestly, the fact that they're also still concurrently working on their own Blue Shift remake (Guard Duty) at the same time rather perplexes me, seeing just how far along Black Mesa: Blue Shift already is. There's going to eventually be two different, competing Blue Shift remakes.

Out of the new hardware I only want the Deck because of my current living conditions. Perfect for home cinema in bed and playing in the parking lot.
Not getting a quest lol, fuck Facebook. I rather pay 50% more to Gabe but have a device I can manage on my own than that faux Apple shit

This guy has a point.
He severely undersells the evidence and conflates the several-years-old Citadel (Deadlock) leaks to be claimed for HL3 (which they literally never were lmao). He doesn't, really. He just hates McVicker and wanted to call him a fat retard (which is reasonable, all things considered).

His points about how valve isn't good anymore, how deadlock is mostly outsourced, how Alyx didn't feel much like a proper entry and more of a tech demo, and how a game that's been in development purgatory for 20 years going will likely be a disappointment regardless of how it comes out?

Some things you've completely fucking ignored.

Evidence or not, his point stands.

I enjoyed Alyx and thought it was a fun and good entry, so I suppose I have bias in that regard. I also don't really see how the general shitheap that is Deadlock being outsourced to contractors is really relevant to here where we can see the experienced devs Valve have poached from other prolific studios to become full-time in-house devs (per LinkedIn, at least) for hyperspecific mechanics and design needs that only make sense for HLX lmao. If anything, Valve outsourcing devwork on Deadlock to contractors would imply that they have a lot of work being done on something else, no?

RE: Valve sucks now (very true, in regards to their multiplayer titles in the very least) and the game might suck ass, yes, that's also very possible. If the game sucks I'll be the first to scream it from the rooftops. But I'm also not going to proactively spend my time sitting around dooming about the prospect of that. We'll get to actually judge it when we see it. This is otherwise an exercise in screaming at clouds.

Where's the proof DL is outsourced, are we counting Yoshi/Icefrog as outsourcing?

"muh tech demo" is something that's been flung around for eons at this point, ATLEAST since HL2, and I refuse to see it as real criticism anymore. Why should I even care when most if not all of the people saying this haven't even played the game?

Tripmine's version of Blue Shift has been going on for years before Black Mesa: Blue Shift was even a twinkle in HECU Collective's eyes. I'm honestly far more interested in Tripmine's version considering that unlike Crowbar Collective and HECU Collective, they seem to be more intent on sticking as close to the original HL, OF and BS as possible instead of "Half-Life 2"ing them for lack of a better term. Also their developers are based.

Well see I don't get that, if I wanted something as close to the original as possible, why beat around the bush and not just play the orginal?

Improved graphics, visual effects and animations plus expanding some levels in the original that were slightly underwhelming. That's really all I wanted from Black Mesa but they went overboard in a way that, frankly, I didn't always like.

I wish there were more games like hl1 and specifically opposing force where you play in a cool military industrial aerospace secret lab environment with xfilesy atmosphere and a big weapon roster

OF specifically because dropping in to a Lovecraft cosmic nightmare with a desert eagle and m249 is fun as hell

HL2: Lost Coast was intentionally a tech demo and I'll still go back and play that from time to time when I want some HL2 but don't want to do a whole run through.
